So you think wakesurfing is new?

I came across this at a correct craft owners site. It was scanned from the 1966 C.C brochure.

Longboard wakesurfing correct craft style. I wonder what year and who was the first to wakesurf?
Last wk'd we were camping at a small lake at the Waterloo state rec area In Mi. and a guy had this cool 1966 16' correct craft mustang, and boy did this little boat run! I was jonesin for a pull!
Anyway after seeing this old boat I was curious about them and started looking for information on them.

My uncles were wake surfing in 1945 while on leave in HI during the war. They were on 15' redwood boards behind outboards. But they saw someone else doing it. Do not know who they were. First time I saw someone do it was in 1958 in Venice CA. Dewey Weber was the rider.

In that brochure it looks like the boat is an I/O...

I believe that there is also a clip in Endless Summer (the surf movie) where they are on longboards behind a boat.

TR--Think I saw a similar, if not the same movie. Guys searching the world for the perfect wave.....1950's home movie/documentary....Sounded like they settled on Africa, with the rows and rows of miles long rollers?

The movie I saw had them surfing longboards too...

We used to wakesurf way back in 1986. We took out our ocean boards and were pulled behind some old I/O. It was at Nacimento. Not quite the same as today.
