You should just go out and shoot as many photos as you can because neither app will fix crappy photos. ;-)

Check out Lynda or Kelby Training for tutorials (both are paid services.) You can also do a search on google for free tutorials for both of those apps.

Personally I would start with Photoshop because you can use it for other media like web graphics, video graphics, etc..

They serve 2 different purposes, try and learn them both.

So true Kung Fu, if your picture is properly setup, exposed, and focused, the program you use is inconsequential.

may I recommend a book first. it is only 18$ and will save you.

I disagree, I've played with the picture styles on my 1D3 and tried every setting it offers and have yet to see a single jpeg come directly out of the cam that looks as good as the default RAW conversion Aperture offers. This goes for properly exposed shots taken in perfect light as well as shots where things weren't perfect.

I agree that a properly exposed/focused shot is more important than whether you're shooting jpeg or RAW but I wouldn't call the benefits of a great RAW convertor and the PPing options it offers "inconsequential".

I would get lightroom or aperture well before Photoshop. You can do 90 percent plus of everything you do with these. That being said I have both and think if you stick around photography you will as well

just take lots of pics and process them. You learn a lot during the post processing process
