I've always wondered, actually kind of worried, about what would happen if your dry suit filled up with water. I would think that you would still be bouyant enough to not sink completely, but scares me to think maybe you would sink like a rock. Anyone have any first hand experience?

Water is neutral in water. If you dropped a 500 pound fat sack into the lake it is no longer 500 once it's submerged. The only weight you would feel is the weight of the fat sack itself or in this case the dry suit.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I could see it being pretty tough trying to get back in the boat, if say your zipper split or a seam burst. Might be kinda funny as well.

You should wear a vest over or under it any ways IMO. I wear one under it at all times.

Good point about the vest. I forgot but was going to ask that too. Who does or doesn't wear a vest under their dry suit? I don't because usually have a sweatshirt or other bulky clothing on at that time of year.

I always wear a vest under the dry suit.

If you're required to wear a USCG vest normally, it also applies under the dry suit. It may seem unnecessary, but the cops require it. I was stopped a couple of years ago and was issued a warning because the vest under my drysuit was a comp vest not USCG approved.

In Minnesota the rider is not required to wear any vest, approved or not, you just have to have enough in the boat for all passengers and rider. I agree it's a good idea. I'll have to pick up a bigger vest, my normal one is skin tight, would never be able to fit over a sweatshirt.
