When he gets healthy, i hope parks unleashes like he used to so everyone who hasn't gotten to experience true parks riding gets to see how nuts the guy is. He won or should i say dominated the carnival and was no where near 100%.
Why are people bashing the Parks "stalker". No one bashed the 100 threads on Vandall that popped up.

Pry because this site is full of haters. But thats cool I love haters. People only hate on people who are better than them. Just look at all the posts on Phil Soven. Everyone hates on him because he has more talent in his left toe nail then most have in there whole body...

But this thread is about Parks! so lets keep it up!

Ran into Parks in Dallas last weekend. Still rocking the mustache, decked out in full FOX gear. Awesome guy. Talked to him a while, and he was really top notch. He said he is riding a little with the knee, but he walked like it was killing him a little still.

Parks free riding is always enjoyable. I also am continually impressed with his rail riding. He is always pushing the limits of what can be done with rails.

Parks has the most raw talent of anybody ever to strap on a board. I remember once at one of the early Wakeboarding mag team challenges back in Orlando, probably 10+ years ago or something. They were looking for something completely different, so they essentially ran a head-to-head boardercross format behind PWCs around an obstacle course. Mind you, this was before people were doing wakeskating or rail jibs, and PWCs still were pretty much the enemy of wakeboarders, so most riders were not used to them. Most riders that day were struggling with the novel format, and there were lots of frustration and pissed off feelings, as many of the regular contest champions were out of their element.

Anyway, PB got whipped too hard around an outside turn and so he passed the PWC. He started to sink down, which would have caused him to pop the handle when the PWC caught back up, and his team would have lost.

Completely improvised, he somehow pulled an ole surface 720, which by some miracle kept him above the surface of the water until the line got tight when the PWC finally caught up with him, and he rode it out. It was fricking unbelievable. At that moment I realized this kid was the chosen one. Total spaz later in the parking lot (like 16 or something at the time?), but not at all arrogant, almost seemed shy and maybe even a touch insecure in a way, way back then. It's been fun for an old timer like me to watch him grow up.

We saw Parks at the LA boat show a couple of weeks ago. My husband bought me the Ronix Coy board and boots from Parks. He is the most down to earth pro we have ever met! He said he is riding again but he has also been spending a lot of time promoting his company Ronix. He seems happy and totally pumped to get back out there. He is a super cool guy. Rob I love the picture of your little boy with Parks. He looks so excited. Our son Dylan is 3 months old and he kept smiling and laughing at Parks. Who knows maybe both will be the next big thing. :-) Upload

Ryan, I knew somebody on here would remember that event! I had forgot Tina was driving, heck I didn't even remember that Parks was riding for you guys at that time. Those were the days. You are so right, that whole contest was pretty crazy.

I was the guy that got 2nd that day, our team (Stinger) hadn't been beat during that whole thing and we got screwed when Marie dumped the handle coming out of the water in the finals. By the way Ryan, that was the most dangerous thing, especially when Gator and Bruce collided. I still have that WBM issue somewhere, I think it was in 1998. That weekend was fun as hell though!

And yea, Parks did come up with some crazy "save" around the turns at Mach 1, it was insane especially with the 20+feet of slack in the line he probably had! I dont think Parks was riding for them, he was on his own at that time like a "free agent" Ryan and I think Brannon and Tina picked him up because Gregg didn't want to do it. (I think....it was 10 years ago!)

I remember that issue. Parks was like a free agent and then after that (next issue or two) was the first sequence of him doing the double half cab roll on a Best board with Hyperlite Hiback boots. Old school. Then he got signed to FM shortly thereafter, Then they filmed Shafted which IMO was the sickest section of all time. Parks liked triple ups for awhile.

Speaking of back in the day... We had Parks and Zane Schwenk on our house boat for a few hours during 1998 Boardstock... We had some strippers from LA, and I have a picture of Parks and Schwenk with a stripper on our boat.. I believe Parks was 16, 17, or 18 (underage and still traveling with his parents at least) at the time, and his mom came and got him off of our boat.. Parks was a little bit embarrased from what I remember, and of course did not want to leave... Parks mom also new one of the guys on our boat (forget his name off hand, but he was from socal and the son of some guy that owns a famous ski school there): she ripped him for allowing Parks on our boat.

Anyways good times... If anybody is reading this and remembers 98 boardstock, and the house DJ getting the sh*t knocked out of him with the balloon or the bond fire exploiding.. That was our house boat on the stealth balloon launcher that night...

Also if Parks is reading this thread, I did not mean to embarrasse you with writing about your mom coming to get you, but it was funny at the time.. LOL

Thank you,

Ken Land

I'm sure Parks remembers it...

that sounds like Shasta to me. Of course, all of the boardstocks back then were pretty crazy.

I remember the magazine article on that contest. classic stuff. I believe that was after the "freeride" contest that Mike Weddington won. "Randy" Harris was like 14 when he rode in that. rockin the double ender.

I'm talking about Shasta...

Yeah 98 Boardstock was one of the craziest weekends I've ever had. We had a huge houseboat that slept like 18 people, and it was almost filled.. The weekend cost me like $200 including food and beer.. 98 was the first one I went to, and I had no idea what to expect.. We left the dock thursday evening and arrived about 2 1/2 hours later at the entrance to the bay which was blocked off until the next morning... I awoke the next morning and our houseboat was in line for entrance along with at least another hundred boats (thats right: a line of boats).. We got the prime spot right in front of where the bonfire would be, and the nightly festivities. The riders would be pulled right by our boat within 20 yards (prime location).

The Bert Werks houseboat landed right next to us with a full DJ setup with like 6 foot high concert stacks (unbelieveble). That first night in our spot I passed out for a few hours in my bunk; I was awakened by my friend who was telling me to get up because I was not going to believe it: of course I can hardly hear my friend because the Bert Werks sound system is going... I walk out the back of the houseboat and there is a sea of inboard boats, I look to the side, and the Bert Works houseboat's back platform is almost under water... I come out from the 2nd story over hang to look up, and there are at least 200 - 300 people hanging, standing, and dancing on the Bert Werks boat. Within 30 minutes of getting up Bert Werks called it quits because there houseboat was sinking... Saturday and Sunday mornings the Bert Werks boat would wake up the entire bay with that camp wakeup call from the movie meatballs.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was that friday afternoon drinking and watching the bay be filled up with side by side houseboats one of the Guys; who was wearing a yellow football helmet with no face shield and read "Stupid" took a swim about 30 - 40 yrds out right into the shipping lane.. A houseboat that never saw him came cruising by; he grabs one of the long as morring ropes in the front; it comes loose, and he gets left behind hanging on to the rope.. Everyone on this houseboat is in the front of the boat looking for places to beach, and no one sees him... All of our boats are of course cheering stupid on.. After the slack catches up stupid is being pulled by the houseboat like a skier; he James Bond style pulls his way up the rope to the houseboat, climbs on board, and runs thru the houseboat to the front wearing his helmet, runs right by the 10 people in the front and dives off the bow to swim back to us... Those people never had any clue even to this day where stupid came from.. I cant imagine how shocked they were and the stories they tell of 98 Boardstock...

I could write for hours about the events that happened that weekend.. By far the craziest weekend ever, and could not have been better...

Thanks,

Ken Land

To me Boardstock died the day it left Shasta...

On a bright note, Brostock in Powel is bringing the party back... you should check it out!
