Good option to have or can you live without it?

Bad option to have. When I ordered my 08 I did not get it. It does not recess into the seat so people bang into, boards bang into it and it is 900 bucks. Pull from the tower or the transom ring.

I like to throw my ski on every now and then. but even if I neglect it for a long time I have at least a few people each season who want to single ski behind my boat...and usually its a worth while show to watch, my buddies dad is in his mid fifties and he still can rip on a ski. I have friends who want me to take it off but I never will.

While on the subject....sort of. Can you remove a ski pylon from a DD? Never really thought about it or looked to see, but I never use it...except for racking the funnybone every now & then.

sorry for the hijack

I can remove mine on the X-45. X-Star comes with or without...sort of "hard wired". Use mine every now and then...a nice to have I guess. Would be great if you could easily remove on a Star.

Kevin, there was a guy on here a few days ago that had just purchased a mobius and he removed by the pylon and put some kind of hard plastic covering over the hole. The post was talking about murdering out the boat so you should be able to find it. I'm sure he can offer some advice.

Kevin, here is my good deed for the day. I saved you some time. Here was the post

removal from my mobius DD was cake. Took all of 15minutes. There are 2 giant bolts through the bottomr section. I was really happy to get that thing out of the way.

I don't understand why Mastercraft doesn't have removable or retractable pylons. Seems like a simple thing to design into a boat. Malibu has been doing it for years. Many others as well. In my MB it comes out in about 2 seconds.

It sounds lame, but this was a factor in picking my boat... not a big factor, but a factor all the same. Who wants to be tripping over that pylon all the time? Not me!

There was a thread around a while back about someone modifying his pylon to pop up, just couldn't remember if it was an MC or not, turns out after a bit of searching OP had an X star... Don't know whether this helps you or not though.

Mine would come out with one bolt but I like it to pull a tube. The rope is high enough to stay out of the water, and my transom tow spot catches the rope on the wake when I'm going slow.
My wife also hangs her day bag from it to keep it dry and not rolling around.

I always get it. I like being able to stack ropes on it, hook up the barefoot boom, or use it for a tube if neccessary.

It is a good place to hang jackets to let them dry off. I'm leaving mine.

Travis, do you prefer the v-drive boom over the tower boom? I've been eyeing a tower boom for my '04 x-2, but dang, those things aren't cheap. All I really want it for is the occasional barefooting run.

It would be a good place to mount a stripper pole, you know, if you're down for that kind of thing...

Took mine out of my old ass MC. Two nuts and a U bolt. It will never go back in.

As stated above, it has its utility. Sometimes u need to tow a Photographer in the Tube. Good place for his rope.

They are just dangerous if there are kids running around the boat or at party cove with peeps drinking and wet feet and suntan oil. Recipe for missing teeth.

My old SAN did not come with a pylon or a transom ring, therefore I could not tow a tube unless I did it from the tower. I know, I know... what do I want to tow a tube for? BECAUSE THE LADIES LIKE BEING TOWED THAT'S WHY!

I would get the pylon.

One more reason to get the pylon.

The pylon acts like a tent pole for your boat cover - which helps keep the rain running off your boat cover instead of pooling up in the middle.

In WA, this feature is important.
They make other tent pole things that you can set up if you don't have a pylon, but they are pain in the arse to set up.

Never had an issue with water pooling... key is to make the cover tight

I wouldn't buy a boat without the ski pylon. Where are you supposed to mount the stripper pole?

Justin,

I have never had the tower boom. But the V-Drive boom is easy to take on and off while you are out on the water. That's the main reason I went with it. Just get the extensions for it though so you are well out of the way of the spray.

if anyone wants a free pylon they can have mine. It's sitting in the garage taking up space.

when you order an xstar without what do they do to the hole? that post above about retractable is awsome.

If you get one without the hatch is different, so there is no hole.
