So I'm looking to replace my 85 MC S&S with a mid to late 90s v drive. I want to wakeboard(decent wake, but doesn't need to be perfect), and wakesurf(becoming more of a first priority). Also need something to handle rough water much better than my S&S. After a few months of looking I've seen: 94-96 MC Maristar 225VRS LT1 $15k-$17k 99-00 Centurion Elite V $14k-$18k So both roughly the same price but the Centurions are 5 years newer and have less hours. If you have experience with either or both what was your opinion of them? (Message edited by jmcentire on June 30, 2009)

Looks nice, too bad it isn't closer...23 hours each way is a little too far.

Check our centurioncrew for more info on the Elite V. People get some nice waves out of that hull.

Centurion Elite and Eclipse v-drives will definitely make good surf waves. They make decent wakes too, but can be a little sensitive. I have been behind the Maristar 1x and it didn't have much of a wake, but the owner was not really a wakeboarder and didn't put much weight in it, so tough for me to judge, but suspect it would need a lot of weight to kick up a wake. Wow that SAN is a good deal if it is legit and checks out.

I've got a 97' MC 200VRS. Has a "decent" wake, but I don't have any ballast yet. My buddy had a boat shipped across 7 states for under a grand. Don't know if that matters much but there's my 2 cents.

Mid - late 90s Maristars had problems porpoising bad enough that MC used to warrantee the fix. They used to build up the rear edge of the hull so it had a lip to it. That lip would act like a trim tab, forcing the bow to settle down. Or you could just install a trim tab. We had a helluva time getting the bow to settle down before the fix was in place. The tower & handle would be all over the place when the boat was doing it.

Look for a Sanger V210 in the Sacramento or SF craigslists. They have them for that price occasionally and are probably better wakeboard and surf boats than either of the other boats you mentioned.

Those V210s look good, but would it be worth the 11 hour drive each way vs the centurion which is 15 minutes away...not sure. Anyway I had another question, are parts for the Mercruiser engines cheaper/more available than say the LT1s in the MCs?

are parts for the Mercruiser engines cheaper/more available than say the LT1s in the MCs? Yes, because there are way more standard Merc V8s than LT1s. The LT1 was some what of a limited production motor that are in less than 10% of the MCs out there.

Check out the 92-94 Nautique Excel's - - also - they made a Barefoot Nautique during those years that had a 454 and yes a V Drive... I rode behind one several years ago, and loved it - a great start for a V drive.... http://reno.craigslist.org/boa/1229990457.html http://nashville.craigslist.org/boa/1248107941.html http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/boa/1199851036.html

I wouldn't worry about finding LT1 parts. It's a standard chevy engine thats been around for years.

Did the LT1's in boats have the awful Optispark ignition? I certainly hope not.

If you can find a Super Sport for $15K buy it... A+ wakeboat. We ride a 1995 with 4K lbs and the wake is dope.

Were it my money, I'd put it on a Nautique or MC... Centurion's build quality was still questionable in the early 2000's (this is coming from a Centurion owner).
