The whole single and dual VC stuff has me stumped. If I'm running one sub at 4ohms, would it be better to run a sub with a single 4ohm coil, or a 2ohm dual voice coil sub in series? Or is there no difference? The total ohm load would be the same either way, so is there an advantage to 2 voice coils?

Hi Kraig,

Most guys post stereo questions in the boat and accessories section of the board, it's probably more correctly done here...

Dual voice coils offers more versatility (plus advertising options). Given the choice I prefer to run a single 4 ohm voice coil sub off an amp running in bridged mode, however I also have an Alpine sub that has dual 2 ohm VCs wired in series to a bridged amp. Pretty much the same net effect. You could also run the amp in stereo with one channel to each 2 ohm VC, the net power delivered from the amp will be the same, it just requires another pair of wires.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the explanation and the direction to post in the correct forum. Wasn't sure which one to post in and definitely didn't want to post in both. Since my system will be pretty simple, it sounds like the single 4ohm is the way to go.

Thanks again.
