I turn phone all the way up then adjust the volume off radio but it really is just what you prefer it does not really matter if your using AUX

Its best to not have anything maxed out, anytime you do your risking distortion so back it off a couple notches.

Always tune to the maximum volume you can achieve upstream without distortion. In other words, turn all the gains downstream to minimum and crank up your phone until you hear distortion. If it doesn't distort at maximum volume, then tune at maximum volume. Then just turn up gains going downstream, always staying just a notch below distortion. Do it this way and you'll reduce the chance of blowing things up.
