I love seeing videos like that after hearing people complain about a lack of wake.

I can't watch the video at work, I will check it out later, but I remember some old video of Byerly throwing down with no wake and a short pylon. After watching that vid, I decided I didn't need 4K of ballast to enjoy the sport.

Won't shut me down. I need the wake. Yeah, that Byerly video was unbelievable. There was another recent video from S. Florida on here that impressed me with a small wake. Can't recall who it was though.

I agree John! I'm stop complaining about small wakes once I am a pro and wakeboard 5 sets every day!

I don't care either way small wakes suck...did anyone notice how hard he was cutting for every trick. Not only wears you out faster, falls are harder, and doesn't look nearly as good. Don't get me wrong I wakeboard behind i/o's all the time but after riding behind my buddy's x-star he bought this season I got spoiled quick. We went out last weekend and air temp was around 55 at 8 in the morn. We all took like 2 sets behind my friend's Larson and were ready to get out because the cold water wasn't worth hittin the tiny wake. Aj is puttin it down in this vid tho.

I don't think anyone "needs" a rediculous wake. Some just "want" that. Which is understandable. I want that aswell and when I watch videos like this it

A. makes me think how much better a rider this kid is
B. makes me that much more greatful whenever I ride a big wake

agreed Jason... youtube comments are always the dumbest crap ever. That video was killer, thanks for posting.

Byerley wins. But yeah, AJ is still absolutely killing it behind that boat. If nothing else he can edge like a champ.

Luker (xbones),

Off topic but on one of those videos there is a mirror mounted on a 210 with the FCT3 tower and it is mounted to the cargo rack. Do you know if that is something that is "home grown" or off the shelf. I love my 230 but hate the window mounted mirror and was thinking of crafting up something to hang it from the cargo rack as in the video.

It's home grown. My good buddy Rick Graydon put that together. I could put you in touch with him if you're interested.

Reminds me of the old gator and Byerly videos like How to Ride a Wakeboard with rich Goforth and crew. Just goes to show muscle memory and edge control can generate plenty of spin or flip.

I have pulled all of my tricks (aerials and spins) off a 16ft Boston Whaler w/ a 40HP.

This kind of riding will make anyone a better rider!

Impressive...I'd like to see more pros take a session with little to no wake. Also a good way for Gator boards to advertise b/c not every average weekend warrior has access to a brand new wake boat and 4k lbs. of ballast.

AJ's edge is ridiculous he must ride cable. you don't see many straight boat riders edge like that with as good line control.

byerly though is insane, i don't even believe he did a mobe off that wake..
and a 5.

Very true KG. I rode behind a 13ft boston whaler for about 7 years. The wake was tiny, the rope was 6 inches off the water (not even exagerating) and it had a 40hp motor. Makes you learn edging, and it definately made me have a great olly. Tried my first tantrum behind that boat and they said I nearly hit my head on the water!

God. That is so dangerous it makes me cringe. Especially the front flips, "frantrums" and scarecrows.

Someone like that, with a future like that... risking his tib/fib or even femur on a sort of joke run (impressive nonetheless) hurts my brain.

I guess I feel this way because that's how I broke my leg. Trying my hard stuff behind a boat that made a minimal wake. It was a joke run behind a joke of a boat and I really paid for it.

I say this with all due respect to him. I just don't like seeing people within an inch of a horrible injury. And on one of those scarecrows the man was as close as it gets. Be careful, guy!

Yeah I am with Luker,

I been out with AJ a bunch of times, he knows what he's doing. That kid has amazing control for being so young.

And boosting "x" amount of feet into the flats doesn't carry any risks? No matter what you're doing, there is always that chance of injuring yourself... Saw a thread somewhere about someone's buddy who broke their leg just learning how to get up.

AJ great riding for a small wake. My knees hurt watching it though. to much energy being spent on a little wake.

My 210 pound butt would squash that wake.I just want to float some airs and land down the butter side :-)

Wilcox - sick section on Byerly in Mass.... holy smal wake lol.

Yeah, crazy small wake, he pulls a 5, mobe, krypt, and tells them to slow down 6 times in 6 minutes. Guy can do anything.
Old    murrayair            10-10-2009, 12:53 PM Reply
That's inspiring. If he can do that behind such a small wake, I need to stop complaining about my wake, which is still small, but like 3 times that size, lol. Great vid.
