Just got a new strap on and other related toys

I just received a Dbot5 “Strap On”. I also bought a double Dbot wakesurf rack and a Dbot double wakeboard rack from Only Inboards. My new boat has a double wakeboard rack and a single wakesurf rack. All together the Mighty Centurion will be rigged to hold four skim boards and four thick surf boards.

Why so many board racks? My quiver includes:

When I bring the 9 foot long board I’ll keep it in a board bag and set it in the walk trough.

When I was researching racks I was surprised to find that Only Inboards carried accessories. I thought the site just listed new and used boats. They were offering a name your own deal “March Madness” special. I didn’t go to crazy, but I did ask for some discounts. Ian replied and accepted all of the deals I proposed. However, there were some supplier problems. Ian had to email back and alter the deal and make suggestions. In all I have over 24 emails form Only Inboards on this order. Ian literally bent over backwards to make up for problems that were outside his control. He even upgraded a lower cost wakeboard rack to a polished Dbot5 wakeboard rack so that the polished strap on rack would match the rack it was connected to.

I was wondering how the strap on mated to the base rack. Turns out its quite simple. The strap on is really a bolt on. The strap on came supplied with Allen wrenches and hex head bolts. The Racks have a collection of adapters to mate to different tube diameters. The base racks also include an Allen wrench.

The racks on my old boat were relatively permanent bolt on assemblies. These racks have a quick release. I think with the quick release you can easily remove racks and keep them out of thieves’ hands.

Soon, I hope. I have a problem getting my trailer registered. The State insists on a certified trailer weight or an MSO. I don't have the MSO so I have to take the boat off the trailer and get it weighed.

bigshow, I had the same problem with my boat. What I did was call the trailer manufacturer and had them email me the specs on my specific trailer. I printed the email from Boat Mate Trailer's with the trailer weight. I then called around to a couple different weigh stations until I found one that would give a certified weight ticket using the email from the manufacturer . Unless your just looking for an excuse to put your boat in the water you should be able to do the same.

I don't worry about leaving my boat alone with my crew, I worry about what the insurance would say.

emailing Boat mate is a good idea, I did that last night. I have a wakeboard email crew list with about 40 names on it. One of my crew told me that a local scale and would likely work off of an email like you suggest.

Every one knows about the story with Goldie Locks and the three bears right? This chair was too big, little, whatever, porridge was too hot and cold, beds were too hard and soft. In every case Goldie Locks eventually found something that was just right.

There’s no Dbot Goldie Locks equivalent for Dbot board racks and Centurion/Skylon Swoosh towers without going to Lowes. Each clamp comes with three pairs of matching shims. If you mix and match you get:
1) Thick: Thick
2) Thick:Medium
3) Thick: Thin
4) Medium:Medium
5) Medium:Thin
6) Thin:Thin

Combo 6 is too loose. The remaining combos are too tight. I’m going to have to go out to Lowes and buy longer bolts if I’m going to get Combo 5 to work.

The Swoosh tower diameter is 2 and 3/8. Doesn’t 3/8s seem like a peculiar fraction? I won’t get back to the boat until next week to see if I can’t make this set up work with longer bolts. Sheeesh…

To save pulling boat from trailer, could you weigh scale the whole works, with all gear off the boat, subtract boat dry weight and add 10lb/gallon of fuel? Should be accurate enough. My trailer has a plaque on the inside of one of the frames indicating its weight. Did you look?

Matt, The state just wants a certified slip of paper with trailer weight. They want to know if the weight is 4,000 pounds or less or 4,001 pounds or more. They won’t let me do the math. I separate and weigh or I have to find a "flexible" scale operator that will let me do the math.

I did look at the information printed on the trailer. I was surprised to find a Goodyear sticker with a 1 800 number to order replacement tires or maybe it was to find the nearest Goodyear dealer.

Also printed on the trailer was the load capacity of the trailer but not the weight. I think that most of these dual axel trailers weigh 1,500 to 2,000. I'm guessing this one is closer to 2,000. That's well under 4,000. If it were a tool trailer or an ATV/motorcycle trailer it would be no big deal to unload and weigh. The BMV doesn’t have a clue. Whatever, this is just a minor inconvenience that will be resolved next week.

If you have ever tried to pull your trailer without the boat on it the trailer will be bouncing all over the place. My only experience in doing this is when I put or take my boat out of the water. That's driving slow...I couldn't imagine going 30 mph or faster. Seems dangerous.

Ed - Yes, I always laugh at myself, even my wife makes fun of me for it.

Boatmate responded quickly this morning and advised that the trailer is around 1100lbs. If you need an exact I'd say you will have to unload the boat, but the MSO will say 1100.
