Hey guys,

Gauntlet, the Virginia Tech Wakeboard DVD will be premiered Sunday, December 7th, at 9:30. In light of this, I've opened up online orders for the FREE DVD. All that you have to do is enter your information on this page

Gauntlet Order Form

When the DVDs have been made (hopefully by the end of next week), I will ship them out to everyone ASAP, and with any luck, you'll have a copy two to three weeks from now. If you need it sooner than that, PM me, and we can work something out. But I'm on an exceptionally tight budget, so cheap shipping is what I'm using.

Here's the trailer again if you haven't seen it already.

Oh yeah. A guy named Kyle ordered a DVD, and gave me his street address, but no City, State, or Zip Code. If you see this, PM with that info so I can get you the copies you ordered.

Thanks Nick,

I will do the same to ease up on the shipping and dvd costs. Thats really cool that you are putting this together!

I'll see how much it costs. I may be able to get some help from the club itself of shipping costs. I just officially hit the 50 DVD mark, so I need to order more cases (have 50 coming Monday) and buy a lot of dvds. I seriously didn't expect this thing to have so much interest.

Thanks Nick. I will also be glad to help with the shipping. I have a PayPal account.

Hey, I worked out a deal with the wakeboard club itself. The club is going to set up a way for people to donate later on (details will be included with the DVD) so that we can keep making these videos (will hopefully be something we do each year that I'm here at Tech at least), but shipping is now officially covered.

At this point, looking at over 100 copies to distribute (70 from this site alone), I'm really hoping that the full version lives up to your guys' expectations. I'm not sure if it will, but I'd like to say it will, but I just don't know. Probably just cause I'm FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW! Holy crap. T-Minus 17:30 to premier. Oh my God. Oh my God. Holy crap.

Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-07-2008, 8:48 AM Reply
I'm not sure. I have a bunch of footage in the video that isn't as crisp, because I was stupid and didn't run it at a higher frame rate. But there was too much of it to just leave out of the video. If it's crisp and clean looking it's from the past two months.

Try changing the setting on it to 60i and set the color mode at vivid. That's what mine was set on for the fall filming, so shots like the first one of Jeff Goldblum were done like that. It helps when you get lucky and have lighting like that too. It was flawlessly lit a couple of times that we were filming, which definitely makes parts of the video look better. I just wish these canon's had better coloring and light sensors, because any kind of low light craps out, and the color tends to fade a bit during daylight filming.

Nick, what lakes did you all ride? The opening scene looks like a lake that I always hit up but im in NE Tn...it looks like Boone Lake...I didn't know if you rode that one too, or if you rode any of Watuga, etc...Trailer looks awesome, just put in my order for a copy...
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-07-2008, 9:25 AM Reply
Nah. It was all Smith Mountain, Lake Anna, and Claytor Lake.
Old     (silvermustang35)      Join Date: Jul 2008       12-07-2008, 9:28 AM Reply
Ah gotcha...they look quite similar to here..
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-07-2008, 9:33 AM Reply
Yeah. Claytor is where we did most of the filming, and it's in the mountains, so it and a tennesse lake would probably look pretty familiar.

To Sam and Bart (just ordered in the last couple of hours), neither of you guys put down your city, state, and zip code. PM me with that if you see this. And I'm still looking for Kyle P to do the same.

I think the trailer looks great and just wanna say thank you for giving us a free dvd. No need to freak out when you are doing us a favor and spending money out of your own pocket just to ship these things and at over 100 I imagine it cannot be cheap, so, Thank you for the dvd.

I'm freaking out because this DVD is going to represent the club across the nation, and if doesn't turn out well, well that reflects poorly on the club, sorta. So yeah, freaking just a wee bit.

Thats awesome what your doing Nick, I just placed my order (I think). Cant wait to see it.
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-08-2008, 8:12 AM Reply
Thanks, yeah, it came through Adam.

So, the entirety of the club apparently can't take a 4 hour break from studying for finals a week before they start, so other than one member, and then Lee and his friends, no one came. Which gives me the opportunity to use that as a tool to fix a bunch of stuff that I saw in there, since the majority of people haven't seen it yet.

Is it bad that I sat there flush red throughout the thing? Also, is it bad that I tore it apart while it was playing?

FINAL NOTE: Kyle P. if you look at this topic before it dies, EMAIL ME ASAP (PM).

Thanks! Just ordered. I have a friend who just graduated from VA Tech in the summer and can't wait to show her this.

No case is necessary. Just ship it like a Netflix dvd!

Damn, Nick. You're getting a lot of responses here. I'll throw you some cash next time I see you to help out with this.
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-08-2008, 1:34 PM Reply
I know, it's crazy Paul. The club's going to reimburse me for expenses, so don't worry about it.

Rob, and to the other guys who want to donate. We'll have information enclosed in the DVD regarding a paypal or something. Jeff and I are going to go over how we're doing it tomorrow, and I'm going to swing by the post office and buy their entire stock of envelopes =P.

So far, 90 people have ordered over 115 DVDs. I'm amazed at how well this is doing, I really didn't expect a response this big. I'm tweaking stuff now, and will start burning discs later tonight, which means that the first orders should be getting their DVDs soonish, whenever I can get my hands on the envelopes and stuff. I have to order more cases, and more DVDs, so depending on when that stuff gets here, it could be a little while before stuff starts getting shipped out in any kind of mass quantities. I may not be able to do much until break, since it could be difficult to get the guy who's burning the copies for me of the DVD (will be taking final exams).

^^^^ The post office will give you free envelopes if you ask them. Use the priority mail "bags" and turn them inside out...to save some cash.

Did not know that we can still order a copy. Just put my request in for 2, one for myself and one for my neighbor.

I should greg. If you filled out the form, you're in there. There's now 109 names on it, so yeah.

ORDERS ARE STILL OPEN! I'm currently burning copies for the club members right now, and mass production will begin sometime next weekish. Once I have copies out to everyone in the club who wants them, I'll start sending them out to the first people on the list and start crossing them off.

Orders will stay open as long as there is interest.

P.S. I love the wreck section. Basically, I fail.

Wow, I really never expected this much support and interest in the video, this is nuts. Thanks so much guys. Based on emails over the club listserv, the riders like it enough, now to get the opinions of the critics.

By the way, make sure to watch through the credits, you get a gift if you do.

Well guys, looks like shipping is gunna be delayed. Couldn't get a copy of the DVD to the guy with the multiple DVD burner, so I'm sitting here at my computer custom fitting all of the DVD inserts, burning DVDs, and putting the labels on them. I'll post up a new thread when the DVDs get shipped hopefully by the end of next week.

Thanks again guys.

Just signed up; Hope I'm not too late :-)
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-14-2008, 3:21 PM Reply
You're not.

However, best laid plans be damned, the shipping for the majority of the videos is going to be delayed until after Christmas, cause I'll be in Florida, and there was a huge confusion when it came to getting a bunch of stuff done regarding the actual DVDs themselves. I have a box of about 82 of them, but I'm out of ink for printing the labels on the DVDs, which I'll go buy tomorrow after I take an exam. I'll try to have those shipped out sometime late wednesday or sometime thursday. Bands that were involved will be the first ones to get the dvd, which means about 10 of those are reserved. So about a half of the dvd orders should be shipped this week, and the other half in a couple of weeks.

Sorry about the delay guys. If you signed up early though, you're sure to get a copy soon. I can't burn any more on my computer, since the burner currently despises me and the new batch of 100 blank dvds I just received, so I have to wait until I can get the guy with the copy machine a burned copy and the pack of what is now around 95 thanks to a couple of failed burns that screwed up the discs themselves.

I did however burn a grand total of 95 DVDs on my laptop, so yay!

I ordered one a few weeks back...but just wanted to say that I'm stoked to get it!
Old     (wakeboardern1)      Join Date: Aug 2007       12-16-2008, 11:45 PM Reply
Soooooo. I have to buy more DVDs. And more cases. I have 82 DVDs nearly ready to ship, they're just waiting on the information insert on the inside of the video. Will have trivia as well as information on donating to the VT wakeboard club.

I have a box of 100 empty cases and around 90 blank DVDs also sitting next to me. So far, 155 orders have been placed. So far, that totaled up to be over 225 DVDs.

Holy crap. This is somewhat scary. I honestly didn't expect it to get this big. I still have about 30 to give out to people in either the club or who were involved in the making of it that I haven't seen. I also need about 50 to give to Wake'N'Skate. All in all, around 300 copies are likely to go out at the rate at which orders are coming in.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.
