Tonight I did a quick project to mount my Sirius portable satellite radio.

I used the vehicle mounting kit. It comes with an adhesive tape base mount. I cut the base off exposing the threads on the swivel ball. I then found a suitable location close to a power source, out of most of the elements, but still at the driver's control.

I bent a piece of aluminum to get the desired mounting angle and cut it to length.

I drilled the plate and tapped (1/4-20) for the base plate mounting screw. Coated with primer and silver hammered finish spray paint.

Here is a picture of the bracket and base plate assembled. I also cut and drilled a backing plate.

I used the bracket as a template to drill the holes into sideboard. I also picked this area so that there wouldn't be any plain view witness marks if I ever remove the bracket. Here is the bracket assembled. I used nylon locking nuts to prevent loosening.

Here are a few pics of the unit installed.

All that's left to do is mount the antenna. Unfortunately, that'll come after I order a new one since this one flaked out on me.

Simple project that should only take 1-2hrs after you have all the stuff.

Richard...thanks.

Nate...thanks. Yes, you can see it. I know it's a little low, but I wanted to keep it out of the elements as much as possible, but still be easily accessed. The auto kit has a remote included anyway!
