So I have been riding for like 4 years and in that time I have taught a lot of people how to ride. So we go out the other day and my girlfriend want to learn and I figured no prob right, wrong, I tried everything I knew to get her up and was all a no go. I even got in shallow water and got in the water and tried to help her but nothing worked. Please help!

I have taught more people that could not get up in the water by making them get up with the wakeboard on, getting pulled up on the carpet in my living room. has worked every time!

Well, I put her on the back of the boat and pulled her up several times like that and it worked fine but when she got in the water in was over. I told her to bend her knees, put her knees inside her elbows and lean back. I told her to act like she was I a bear taking a ••••••• the woods.

Get the roped super short so when the boat pulls its pulling her up a lot more than it would be back where your at. Then she'll get the feel for what it feels like and what she needs to do then lengthen it....I've done this with a few guys and it seems to work well.

What is happening when she is getting up? Is the board going under the water? Is the rope coming out of her hands?

I have no idea what is going wrong but if she has NEVER been pulled behind a boat, I will often get them started on a kneeboard first so they can get used to holding a handle. I have seen more than a few 'freak out' and shut down nearly all CNS activity when the boat starts to pull. When that happens wakeboarding is not in the cards but since there is nearly zero skill required to get going with a kneeboard they can enjoy some success behind the boat and quickly move on to wakeboarding when they are more comfortable being pulled in the water.

Have someone else teach her. Nothing is harder than teaching someone that you care about how to do something. They don't listen to you because they think you are telling them a lie. Have a friend or someone else teach her and she will listen. It works for my children... :-)

Is she pulling the rope as she gets up? This is the one thing I have found is the best to tell people not to do. Everything else kind of falls in place if they keep that line tight and dont yank.
