I have a Mobius LSV and it seems that the Mobius and the Supra Launch seem to throw a wider wake than most and you need to shorter the rope. What does everyone else think.

Actually the newer x-star wake is wider than the x-80 wake. I have had the opportunity to ride behind both and def. the x-star wake is the widest wake out there. Of course comparing inboards that is.

X-star wider than the x-80? I would have to see that to believe it. Are you guys sure you road both boats at the same speed? My Malibu LSV wake was pretty wide. I rode a little faster behind that boat.

Are you talking about the actual Width of the wake itself or the table top? If its the Width then (from what I've seen in his pictures) Kevin's Xstar wins, if its the tabletop then the Epic 23v...pretty sweet boat.

Always thought the Tige was pretty wide, considering the 102" beam

Daniel. I am talking about the width from 70-75 feet back on w2w jumps. I have never ridden behind an X Star or X80 and although the beam on my LSV isn't the widest, it seems like you have to nail the progressive edge and top of the wake just right to clear both. I'm only an intermediate rider and have never cleared it into the flats. Just came across some reviews and it said to shorten the rope. Maybe it's just technique. I'm riding at 70' 21mph wakeplate at half, 750lbs ballast in the walkthru locker and 250lbs on either side in the back.

It doesn't look like a twin engine from the pic. What do you think that would do to the wake/width?

Randy, you also have to take in to account the shapes of the wakes. I know certain boats don't have the steepness that others may have that allow for you to get booted across easier, therefor causing you to have to edge harder through the wake. Also, wake height is another thing to take into account. I have ridden behind a new x-star loaded down with 23-25 plates of lead and stock ballast. It was really wide but it was so big and so steep that I had no problem crossing it. Then I rode behind a direct drive Wakesetter that wasn't weighted as much at the same length and had some trouble getting across.

It doesn't do anything to the width but it makes the best boat for surfing. No weight shifting needed, just turn one engine in and wake is good on one side, turn that one off and turn the other one on and now yougot a good wake on the other side.

When you guys say LSV are you talking Malibu or Mobius? I never heard from anyone that my LSV (Malibu) wake was narrow. Most people would case like crazy on their first set and sometimes shorten up from 80 to 75'

I haven't ridden behind a new X-Star, but my Supra Launch and J-Rod's LSV are the two widest wakes I have been on. I think both boats have a 98 inch beam. I am sure an X-80 is as wide or wider, but I think you almost put that boat in a different class since it is so big. Riders usually come in at least 5 feet when riding behind my boat as opposed to most other boats.

Meant to post picture...mind you, pretty sure this is only at 75 feet. Wider than SAN at 85, for sure. I've also ridden the X-30 and I thought that wake was wide too. I'm sure the X-80 is even wider.

Here is a pic from my 1V, can not remember if it was 65 or 70 back. Also not the boat is turning a bit (hate when that happens, but the person driving owns 50% of the boat and all other assets )

Wider Boat == Wider Wake. Wider Wake == More Horizontal Travel. More Horizontal Travel == Harder Crashes. IMO

I have been behind quite a few boats, and the newer x-star wake is the widest I have seen. Although the new Malibu is kinda wide also. Dave and I rode both boats the same day and I am sure he will agree also that the x-star wake is the widest. J-rod I know its hard to believe that the x-80 is not as wide as the x-star, but believe me its def. not as wide. We(Ed and I and Bug) rode my boat and the x-80 the same afternoon. Heres a pic of our 04 x-star wake @ 70ft back.

I'm with you on that one Ryan, when I rode behind it the guy told me yeah it is really wide so hit it,well the 1st time I hit it I landed way too far in the flats. And also had a hell of a kick at the top! I didn't think I would like it but on the water the X-80 is sweet in every aspect. (Message edited by big_ed_x2 on July 14, 2005)
