I am looking for a new board but I need some help deciding what to get. I am 6'7 and 225 lbs and pretty much an average wakeboarder. I can go wake to wake with 180's and the occasional 360 but that is about it. I think i want something a little bigger than my current 07 Hyperlite ERA 142 so these are the options I was considering:

09 Murray 145
09 LF Axis 143
09 LF Lyman 143
09 LF Witness 144
09 Ronix One 146
09 Ronix IBEX 144

Any pros or cons for any of these boards? Any that I should stay away from? Thanks in advance.

I am 6'7 and and about your weight. I ride the Gator Legend 145 and I love it especially the softer landings it gives compared to a smaller board.

One you may want to add to your list, the Ronix Viva. It's an amazing board. Fast, smooth landings, and BIG pop. Comes in a 144, which is what I ride.

Check out the SS response 145. It truly is the sickest board ever, with super soft landings, and it's fun to play on.

Flex is in.

Check the Marek! Won board of the year and was designed as a 146 and sized down versus desinged small and sized up. This board is meant for bigger guys!

I am 6 foot 220 and love this board!

I'm 6'2" 235 and rode the Murray this summer but sold it because it just couldn't compare to my Lyman. The Murray was alright but i felt like it just didn't have the pop the Lyman has, nor did I feel like I could pull out as sketch of landings on it. The Lyman is a great board, you won't be disappointed.

Add the 146 One to that list. It is hard to find a good board for a big guy. I personally really like the One and the Ibex. The 2010 Ibex would be even better for you it has a huge surface area to it and is really stable.

Id throw the CWB Transcend out there too.

6'5 225 Here...

I have ridden the 08 Hyperlite Apex 147 and 08 Ronix Ibex 144. The Ibex is good but it broke in half after a hard landing... Rode the Murray 145 in the pay-it-forward program and fell in love with it. That is what I am riding now with the Ronix Relik bindings I still have from when I bought the Ibex.

I am on the 4th set of binding plates for the Relik too... at least they keep sending me new ones for free.

I don't think some of these wakeboard/binding setups can stand up to the beatings us big guys give them.

Good to know you're liking it Andrew

I'm 6'5 220 lbs and ride a Marek 146. It has tons of surface area and light! Doesn't feel like I'm riding a tank on the water!

Sine is by far the softest landing board I ever ridden. Check one out if ya get a chance.

Only slightly off subject - Does anyone have a recommendation for a wakeskate for big people?

I'm about 6'4" and hover just over 200lbs and I'm rocking the LF witness 144 and it treats me pretty well. I'm at about your same skill level but have some inverts down. I primarily ride cable though and mainly bought it for its durability. I've only ridden wake one time with it so it's hard to judge based on that but I think you might be better off with another deck if you're going to be only riding behind the boat. Not that it's bad for boat, it's just that I think there are better decks out there for that style of riding (even though Ben Greenwood rides this deck and we all know how ridiculously awesome that is) but then again, it's usually down to personal preference.

On another note: Slingshot has been tempting me for next season...

I triple the Marek. Best board I have been on ever for my size and weight.

The Marek does look awesome I think it might be a little out of my price range though. I was hoping to keep it under $400. It is crazy how expensive new gear is.

slingshot response 145, if your looking to get a marek board definately get an 09 and not a new one. i heard hyperlite got rid of all the light core boards so now thier all tanks

So with the slingshot boards do you have to use their bindings as well? It seems like last time I looked at them (which was a while ago) they said I couldnt use my current LF bindings because of the different way the slingshot bindings attached to the board but I could also just be imagining that.

The marek is in a standard Foam core this year, so it should fall in that price bracket. Check out your local Hyperlite Shop for the new pricing

It was only the 07 Slingshot stuff that didn't allow for use of other bindings. You're fine to put regular bindings on them now. As for your board, the bigger the better really. 145 or 146 would be choice.

Andrew, the Oak Team Deck is a good board for bigger riders. its really wide and is 41.5" long. and it will last you a long while. Other wise you can have New Wakeskates build you a custom deck.

Chris,

Don't sell yourself short by not trying other possibilities the 2010 Faction is insane. Love it...

Marek all the way. 6'7" 250 and works for me. Should be able to find deals on closeout 09's. I did. I snapped a brand new Viva and a brand new Obrien Decade but not the Marek, yet :-) Its a fantastic board for us bigger boys. Plus its got the "lifetime" warranty which was a good selling point for me. Good luck with your decision.

So based on the comments here and some further research I think I have narrowed it down to these three. I also put my thoughts down for each one. Any more comments on these specific models?

09 Murray 145: I havent seen a lot of reviews for this board but Shaun Murray seems like a stand up guy so I wouldnt mind supporting his line if the board would work well for me.

09 Ronix One 146: Looks like a good option at a reasonable price.

09 SS Response: This looks interesting but I have never been on a flex board so it would be somewhat of a leap of faith for me that I would like it.

I really wanted to throw the Marek in there too but even the close out deals I have found are still around $450 which is more than I want to spend right now. Thanks for all of the help so far.

Not sure if you caught my earlier post, but they will have a price point foam core marek which will better fit in your budget.
