V-drive vs. Direct drive?

I am sure this thread has been posted previously but here goes:

Is a direct drive boat acceptable for most levels of wakeboarders? I mean as far as wake characteristics (shape, size, rampyness, hardness, etc) Aside from the obvious differences like the engine cowling, is there any real disadvantage to the direct drive? The cost is significantly less than a V-drive. I've looked at the Moomba Mobius Ls and Tige 21I. Thanks for your imput.

Many inboards are just as capable of putting out as good of a wake as their v-drive counter part.

The problem is when you get a little better and want to start adding weight, the inboard becomes very cramped and not very user friendly. Most people end up wishing they had paid a little more and gotten into a v-drive.

Cliff is right. I own a 2001 Mastercraft 209 (same as X9) Direct Drive. Now that we are becoming better boarders, moving away from skiing and learning to surf, I have to sac out my boat and it leaves little room for foot traffic. If I was to do it again, knowing what I know now, I would have bougt a v-drive with built in ballast.

that brings up a good point. I would like to wakesurf, would a D-drive put off a large enough wake the surf?

most of the hulls on v-drive have a direct drive with the same hull. in past years. so the answer is yes.

same goes for surfing. There won't be any place to sit in the back of your boat. You'll have sacs on top of sacs.

is this a used versus new argument?

new vdrive unless you are as into waterskiing as you are wakeboarding.

used, direct drive will be more budget orientated.

DD is just as good a wake as vdrive when weighted.

Anyone ever ride a slammed supra launch DD? Kickin wake.

DD is fine for wake surfing, trust me. And seating isn't really an issue
