We passed this guy just after he came under the west drawbridge. On our next lap around, that's what we saw. That must be a pretty sinking feeling. Ouch

dude was scetchy i had a rider up, he was coming the wrong way down railroads and straight trolling and throwing a wake, surfers would die for. he had me pushed out almost in the tullies so i could creep over the rollers. we made the turn came back down and thats what we saw. everyone was ok the guy said and he was just waiting for vessel assist.

we were all thinking what that dude could have done if he decided to not pay attention with a rider down. i think when he passed me he was not paying attention and was already drifting over.

well summers here. clowns are already out. from that dude too some dudes riding tandom and throwing beer cans in the water, some crazy chick speed skiing again the wrong way, a couple tubers and the lovely sound of off shores. it was not a bad day on the d.

dealing with this c--p + hot weather + warm water and trunks = SUMMER.

OR

wet suit + freezing my a-- off - no idiots = WINTER.

hmm, ahh f-it im ready for some hot weather bring on the delta d-bags i aint skurred!!!!!!

Missed you guys this weekend, but this is EXACTLY the reason that we are members at Villa Lagos. These crazy boaters scare me, and it's not even Memorial Day yet.

My kids had to fight off a few rollers, a few frogs, and the bugs - but it was just as hot up north as it was here on the Dirty D...

Can't wait for the INT next weekend! Only comp in Nor Cal this year that I know of so it should be good times and kicks off summer for the Dinatale family! Hope to see everyone from Nor Cal out there. (Really looking forward to the Masters Open group this year!)

hey do you guys know what they run in that vlx weight wise? i got a job so i can afford the sacs.lol

oh yeah and im comming home from chico friday to ride all summer and i might be looking for a small crew to ride with after work daily.:-)

We run 320#in pop bags, a 330# sack up front, and a 550# sack in the back seating area, all stock ballast full including the optional front ballast and full wedge. That's with 5 people including the rider. More people = less ballast weight.

peter thank you for the info. i have been looking on getting 750# or 500# for the trunk and a 1000# bag for the front. i dont have the front tank. are you reproped?
definitly sick pics. i hope to see you guys out there in a week. (blue and grey vlx) i cant wait to get done with finals, they are eating me alive.

Michael- Re-propped to an Acme 1235. That makes all the difference. Be careful with too much front weight. You definitely want some, but 1000 sounds like a lot. We run the 250 factory. the 330 is up against the bulkhead, and there are also 2- 40# pop bags. I guess that's about 660 total up front, but the 330 is back as far as it can go against the bulkhead.

That is actually a rare boat. West Bay didn't make very many of the 45. I can't imagine the feeling of beaching a boat like that. He looks a little embarrassed!

Personally I would have made up a better story!

1. Ummm....I saw a schools of baby seals surface and decided to sacrafice my boat.

2. The steering just went out

3. I was hijacked and run aground

4. One of those wakeboarders with a giant wake caused my boat to loose control.

Honestly, I'm glad he was paying attention when I crossed his bow on my wakeboard.

peter T, you think running two 750# bags in each mtrunk ontop of the stock witht he 1000 in the front is overkill?.. im saying not using the wedge.

or should i buy a 675# sac for the nose because i dont have the stock front ballest and the two 500#s in each trunk?

Michael,

I run the OJ 468 (14.25 X 14 4-BLADE .110 CUP)

vs.

Acme 1235 14.50 14.25 .105 cup 4

The OJ has better low end pull, but will sacrifice fuel economy with higher RPM's.

hey micheal, just fyi, we run my boat very similar to peter, stock ballast full including bow ballast. a 440 flyhigh v drive sac full in the walk way stuffed up against the bow ballast, then a another v drive sac across on the floor pushed all the way back against the back seat. 2 50 "leadwake" bags in the nose hidden in the little side cut outs up in the bow. and 2 50 "leadwake" bags on the floor to move around. we run the wedge all the way down, certain riders get the wedge just a click up. i pretty sure jrod has a couple wake shots from my boat mybe he could post them. just imo we like the extra weight from the back seat forward. i run the stock prop on my boat and it gets up on plane fine.

Michael- 1000 plus two 750s is a lot of weight. I'm sure it will be OK, especially if you re-prop. My opinion is that you have the wedge, why not use it. Yesterday we had about 9 or 10 people in the boat. We were running all factory plus the wedge and 320 in pop bags, but no additional water. At one point, I put the wedge up and forgot to put it back down. The wake was still big, but it lacked the shape. My crew really seems to think that the wedge just gives the wake that something extra. With our setup, we're burning right around 7 gallons per hour. Personally, I'd go with the 675 and two 500s, but if you weRe asking my sons they'd go for the 1000 and two 750s. THEY DON"T PAY FOR GAS!!!

thank you guys for your posts so far i didnt mean to hijack this thread its just really hard to get answers sometimes.

peter, i like what the wedge does to the wake, it makes it nice and lippy. if i ran the 750#s then it would be like you running with 10 people? i would assume. i only ride with about 2 others. could you tell me what speed and rope length you guys ride at?

thank you eveyone for the input.. i have just been trying to get dialed in for a while now.

if you run those 750's in the rear lockers you will need to put a ton of weight in the nose and need to re-prop for sure. you just dont need to get the swim deck under water on vlx. from the rear seat forward is what they like.

my riders range from 22-23 at 80'

Our riders ride at 80-82.5 feet and between 24-25 mph. I agree with what Bryan said about the weighting. I can't imagine very many riders thinking that the wake is too small with a 675 up front and 2- 500s in back, even with just two or three people in the boat. Add a few lead bags for the convenience of being able to make small adjustments in the weight distribution, and you're good to go.

If there is one thing the VLX likes that is weight up front. 750's in the rear is just way too much weight. Add 500lbs. up front or add people and bump the PW up once or twice.

Michael- I would re-prop. We have the monsoon 340, and with the acme 1235, it's a pretty easy hole shot. Running the stock prop will burn more gas at wakeboard speed, and will also put more strain on your engine.

A VLX w/ the stock prop, usually the Acme 537, will require full throttle out of the hole and take forever to plane out. Trust me you'll end up reproping, there really isn't any other choice imho w/ the Monsoon.

If you need to cruise around long distances I'd look at the OJ 475 or the Acme 1235. Personally I prefer the lower end pull of the OJ 468. I only need 1/3 the throttle and the boat is up on plane quickly. Talk to Eric Johnson at OJ, he'll let you exchange your prop (undamaged of course) for another.

Michael,

No, you'll need to buy a new on and use the stock prop for a backup. If you purchased a 468 and then wanted to try a 475 he'd do an exchange for you. I know props aren't cheap but just get the 468 trust me you'll be much more pleased.
