I tried to search out this but didn't come up with anything. I need to change my oil on my engine. Its a merc 350 5.7 MPI. I have a pf25 AC Delco oil filter that fits my 1989 5.7 liter IROC-Z. Will this filter work for my boat as well. It seems to me it would because there both 350 motors, but I want to make sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Rod,
The Napa oil filter # is 1086 I went in and crossed this with my mercruiser filter. I do not know if the pf25 AC delco is the same or not but an autoparts should be able to cross it for you. I do know that NOT all chevy 5.7 l use the same oil filter.

Oh yeah and the Mercruiser oil filter was only a dollar more than the Napa Gold. Much to my suprise.

Chad,
Not sure I got the point on your last post. I've read where people will swear by Napa stuff, yet recommend Manufacture stuff as well. I don't want to put you on the spot but can you quantify quality here?
I'm just thinking that for those of us that do our own oil/filer change $1.00 is well worth better quality......if that's the case.
Thanks

Mobil 1 oil and filter ($12). And ATF. And gear oil. As far as proof of quality in the filter goes...if it's got a Mobil 1 logo on it and it costs $12, it's got to be good.

You might suggest that BECAUSE it's got the Mobil 1 logo on it, it's overpriced by twice. To that I answer, imagine how far Mercruiser marks up ???

Proper care and feeding

There is a difference in burst pressure rating between the sutomotive filter and the marine filter. The NAPA marine filters are great and meet the specs.

Duane,
I am not sure if there was a point to be made. If there was a point to be made I am probably not the one to make it. Basically what I did was I ran the mercruiser filter through the warranty period(so there would be no excuss for the manufacture if there happened to be a problem). Then when that period was over I went with the Napa for a couple reasons: first Napa gold filters are good filters. Second, my napa store is closer than the one hour drive to the marine store. I am not saying that mercruiser filter is better or worse than the Napa. I did not take apart any of the filters to inspect their quality. For all I know they could be made under the same roof.
Duane, you are correct spend the extra dollar for quality oil and filters. cheers
