I want to change my prop on my '02 Prostar205 and I want to know which one to buy. Either the OJ or Acme prop?

Thanks.

I guess the answer may depend on what kind of changes you want to accomplish and what kind of environment you drive in. One problem with Acme is that I didn't see any models offered in stainless steel. If you have a lot opportunities for dings, it might not be a good idea.

I needed more torque with the ballast I'm running in a V-drive, and everyone raves about Acmes. So I put on a new Acme two weeks ago. It is very smooth, and it pulls people up instantaneously. Without ballast however, it will go to the rev limiter. I never drive WOT anyway, so that is not a problem.

I'll just have to wait and see if going from SS to nibral was a good idea in the long run.

By the way, if you decide on an Acme, I'd check with the factory to see what model is best for your needs. Then I'd order it from from http://www.propellersonline.com/. Fast service, the best price, and free shipping.

I have the ACME 3 blade it it works much better than my old 4 blade prop. Believe it or not, the ACME 3 blade is better. Call them and they will explain it to you. Also, I did buy it from propellersonline.

I put the Acme 13.5x17.5 on my 02' X-Star. Acme is the way to go. A couple weeks ago at Midwest Wakefest we had 13 people in the boat, factory ballast, and another 400lbs sac in the nose and the prop had no problem getting the boat on plane. We had about 4klbs of ballast and people. With the stock OJ 14x20 there is no way I'd have been able to get on plane.

I just replaced my OJ with an Acme 13x12, and OMG what a difference. It totally changed my boat. The engine was more powerful and responsive, and just had a different growl to it since it was using the low end power more efficiently. The only downside to the Acme's is they seem very soft so if you ding them, it may cost a little more to repair. I know Bronson Propellers charges an extra $25 to work on an Acme.

What Acme do you recommend for a 02 X star for 5k ft elevation (I never have more than 5 people in the boat). I was thinking of going to 13.5 X 16 but I am not sure whether to go 3 or 4 blade. What are the pros and cons of 3 blade vs 4 blade.

Andrew - You should call Acme and talk to Bill Weeks. He knows all the boats and will be able to pick the perfect prop for you. Make sure you know your max RPM reading at wide open throttle (WOT)with your typical load. With your high altitude use, you are probably going to run a smaller propeller and certainly lower pitch so he will need that RPM data to get the best prop.
