I guess the answer may depend on what kind of changes you want to accomplish and what kind of environment you drive in. One problem with Acme is that I didn't see any models offered in stainless steel. If you have a lot opportunities for dings, it might not be a good idea.
I needed more torque with the ballast I'm running in a V-drive, and everyone raves about Acmes. So I put on a new Acme two weeks ago. It is very smooth, and it pulls people up instantaneously. Without ballast however, it will go to the rev limiter. I never drive WOT anyway, so that is not a problem.
I'll just have to wait and see if going from SS to nibral was a good idea in the long run.
