Does anyone have an idea of how much it might cost to ship a boat across country? Let say from Virginia to California. At least an order of magnitude; $500, $1,000, or $2,000?

If you got it shipped for $1.50 a mile you would be doing well. IMHO.

Just got my boat from So Cal, went with uShip, up to Minnesota. Under $1300 with tip. The guy that did it was great. After talking to him and meeting him I would go with him again in a second. Put your shipment up and find someone with a little good feedback and you should be good to go.

If you do the UShip thing just makes sure the driver has DOT certs so your boat does not get impounded and I also wanted them to have insurance that covered the cost of my boat if anything happened during shipment. Sent mine from AZ to Michigan and it turned out great and the shippers tend to bid each other down to win your business so it is great for everyone involved.
