3 stage boards are much slower than a continuous board. So different riding styles work better with different boards in my opinion. I like 3 stage because i generally cut out wide, and take a really mellow approch but do a quick progressive edge close to the wake. So i get bucked pretty hard off the wake but i usally go more wake 2 wake unless im trying to go in the flats. However the pop on a 3 stage board is less consistant than a continous board Continous is usually a good deal faster than three stage. Also the pop is more consistant, so it is easier to be consistant. I am not very comfortable on continuous boards. I like hitting the wake and being able to "feel" the pop. The technique for getting big air on either board is generally the same. The same amount of air can be gotten on either board, the shape of the board will affect the path you take to get that "air". It is more of a comfort thing in my opinon.
