I might have a possible job in Ottumwa IA. I was wondering what the wakeboarding scene is like. From looking on a map there looks like a good size river there? Is it deep enough for a wakeboat?

Thanks,

Adam

Adam- no it's not. There's really nothing around there for boarding. I grew up in Iowa and the only viable bodies of water for boarding are: the Mississippi, Coralville Res ( In Iowa City), Sailorville (outside Des Moines) Okaboji ( Northwest) and Clear Lake in North central. Good Luck!

^^ Sometimes you can find those sweet local spots. For instance, you would never think of the Shell Rock River in Greene, but most of the time it's pretty nice. (CRAP!!!)

BTW: Clear Lake is pretty crappy for boarding unless there is NO WIND whatsoever and there are very few people. (a rare occasion)

Don't forget about Lake Panorama in Panora. That lake is packed with Mastercrafts.

I live in Clear Lake and during the day on the weekdays, the lake is really nice. Just don't ever go out during the weekend unless you want to do some tubing or sunbathing. There are atleast four seperate areas on the south side of the lake that are awesome to wakeboard in.

Adam,
I live on a private lake just about 30 min west of des moines. (not panorama) Not many people know about the lake. We skied on the Des Moines River everyday growing up. Never hit anything w/the boat or had any troubles. Thats going to be a ways away tho.

Like Murphy said,
Rathbun and Red Rock are close. I havent been on either lake but was at Red Rock was blown out both times I visited.

Brandon, what lakes are in Montezuma and Brooklyn? Ponderosa?

i live on lake rathbun pretty much and you can find spots to ride pretty easy, its a big lake. and you can ride on the des moines river right in town pretty much. i have rode it behind a maristar 225 and behind my own moomba mobius xlv, completely sacked, and never had any problems. hit me up and i'll let you know about the secrets of both locations and introduce you to some other local guys that ride there a lot and are really cool.
