I thought it was just an axis at first but there are lots of differences that ive been able to pick out.

I love the pickle fork bow on my Axis. It makes running in 25-40mph winds in open water a lot drier than my previous larger boat with traditional bow

Been hearing about this boat for a little while now. Supposedly it is a 2012 model and will be called the MTX.

Good looking boat!It looks in style and fresh.I think they will sell well because this is the type of boat everyone wants now.Fresh look ,more room and you don't have to add the length.

Let's just hope Bayliner doesn't come out with a pickle fork

if this is supposed to be a mtx, i assume they will keep lsv,vlx and vtx the same?

I wonder what the price tag will run on that compared to the VLX??

Is that a fat kid ladder under the swim step? I always felt that a regular height swim step was a good weeding out process for fatties. If you can't drag your ass up on the step, you might not want to be on the boat.

Boat looks good. Like the rounded rear end and the transom seats.

I have heard 90k for this boat. Seems excessive to me but people will pay it I am sure. I think it should come in about 15k cheaper than that but if Malibu can get people to pay the higher price I am sure they will.

its cool. but it looks way too much like the Axis they are making. i hate the linear downward stance they have, but the little details look pretty sweet! looks like the freeboard is really small, and doesnt look like its because its weighted..whats the deal with that?
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       05-31-2011, 1:34 PM Reply
Well, based on the pictures, it looks like everyone is excited to finally be able to ride in the bow of a Malibu!

Interesting that this is how Malibu chose to leak the pictures of their new model, not saying that it's a bad way, just interesting!

I like it. Can't wait to see more pictures of it. About time for a new boat for us. THis could be a good one to look at next summer.

Gorgeous boat but the front does look a great deal like their Axis' line.
Old     (ixfe)      Join Date: Aug 2008       05-31-2011, 3:06 PM Reply
My initial impression is... looks a lot like an Axis which you can get 1/2 the price.

My next thought is... looks like a poor attempt at copying the X-25 or the RZ2 (both awesome 22' pickleforks in this $80K + price range).

My third thought is... why do boat companies continue to pump out more models in the $80K + price range? We need more $50K boats.

Malibu has less expensive boats.Maybe this is a response to the axis popularity. But for the people who want more BLING!
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       05-31-2011, 4:32 PM Reply
My guess is that it has the same wetted surface as the Axis and possibly even the enitre hull mold. I doubt the boat is that expensive but if it is that is insane. I may be wrong but can't you get a loaded Axis for around 50k? There is absolutely zero way you can justify 40k in extra money to go from an Axis to a MTX or whatever it is called. Like I said I doubt it is that expensive though. I am guessing right around 75-80 is where you will see more priced at. That is still quite a bit more but I could see someone justifying 25k more to get the super plush, loaded from the get go MTX.

By the way, I don't like the rear seat. I would rather have more sundeck and bigger hatches.

If its anything like the 247 the rear seat will have the wet storage underneath. I like not having to throw everything dripping wet in the boat all the time.

im sure this pickle fork boat will be sick! especially cause malibu actually focuses on their wake unlike the POS tiges with a picklefork....
the x star is awesome, along with the axis, hopefully malibu joins in

So I guess you would compare wakeboarding behind a POS Tige to towing with an 89 S10.

Lol - seriously! You tow with an 89 s-10 and you are bashing Tige. You should take the Tige challenge, buy a Malibu, and use the $1k from Tige to buy a real truck.

all i can say is it must of been the boat gods that told me to not purchase a 2011 lsv and keep my 05 vlx for one more summer. this makes me very very happy. i have been torn between a x25 and a lsv for the past 2 years. i want more rum for the kids but don't want a full 23 foot boat. the x25 is perfect but have always loved my bu. this boat looks to be just perfect. i will be making the call to the dealer soon to get in line for one. i just hope the wake and surf wake is sick but i am sure it will be (its a bu) i hope that the reason its sitting so high in the back is due to all the peeps in the front. can't wait to see more pics.

I'm pretty sure Malibu didn't "choose" to release the first pics in this manner. My guess is the guy driving it thought he could sneak out for a day on the water w/out anybody noticing. Wrong! WakeWorld is everywhere!! LOL

Glad to see that it has a full windshield. I think the Axis (and this boat) looks pretty cool but that not having the full windshield on a windy day has to suck!

I think they wanted this boat to be seen......It was out with a dealer and they came to the only place on the lake that had any people because it was so cold that day!!! They sat there for awhile making sure everyone got pics!!! If you don't want to be seen, memorial day weekend is not the time to go....lol

they for sure wanted it to be seen. there are many private spots around many lakes to go test.

i am hearing high 80s to mid 90s with a very late summer delevery of just a few units. i hope that area behind the window is as roomy as at least the vlx. it is suppose to be 100% new redesigned hull, not a axis copy

I'm sure it's not an exact copy but wouldn't be surprised if it was a close facsimile

It is an automatic deploying secondary wedge for surfing. It only needs it on the driver's side though.

so why is it with all the people there, everyone who could see this boat, these are the only three pictures of it anywhere? Surely someone out there took more pictures if this is for real. if two of us from this forum were there, there would be way more pictures than this up on this board, or somewhere else. I'm just saying.....

Not sure what you're getting at, but Brian is not part of some grand scheme by Malibu. He is an photo guy that takes hundreds of pics when on the boat. He happen to catch a couple shots of "other" cool things on the water. Truthfully I wouldn't have even bothered with pics of the boat with everything else going on.

It definitely doesn't look like a axis windshield.I would guess the hull is the same as one of Malibu's other hulls, modified with the pickle fork front end.

it should be basically the VTX hull. I was told the A20 was essentially a VTX hull, the running surface is the VTX hull. <--this was from a dealer.

Robert, Malibu is the parent company for Axis. So it would make sense for it to be the same hull has the A20, add some different features on the sides and the cap and call it a Bu.

For the record, the a20 hull is absolutely NOT the same hull as the vtx. The hull of the a20 has various distinguishing characteristics that were introduced in order to maximize the wake producing capability of the a20. I know this because I was shown exactly what the differences are by someone who owns an a20 and who has first hand knowledge of the design and manufacture of the a22 and a20.
