Looking at the 06 line up I think Mastercraft has offically took a step back!

Pictures are posted everywhere just do a search. I think I am correct in that you can get the old tribal crap if that is what you want. Atleast you will be able to spot a new MC from the other side of the lake.

At first I think I puked in my mouth a bit when I saw the graffiti X-star but after looking at the red and white one on the link above it's kinda growing on me. Different strokes for different folks, and I definitely wouldn't turn down a ride in one. The X-2 looks dope, and the X-1 will be a sweet ride. It all depends on the color scheme for me. Some colors look nasty like the X-45.

Awesome boat, but the graffiti graphics aren't gonna grow on me anytime soon. Looks like some toy 12 Y.O. wanna be tagger went loose with spray cans.

I don't mind the X=Star graffiti, but the simple graphics just dont do it for me, and this is coming from a guy that has nothing but MOOMBA written in the worst bold lettering on the side of my boat.

Yup, kinda like the new X-Star graphics. At least they took a different approach. The X-45: hmmm, really ugly. I think I'll grow to like the X-2. Hopefully before next summer.

Agreed that the X-45 colors in the pic are grossse... But props for at least trying something new MC!! -even if nobody likes it-

trust me, people always resist change.....the new graphics will grow on all of you. I am looking at the new x1 for the spring, and in yellow with simple black x1 on the side its hot......anybody consider the idea of doing their own custom graphics? Would cost you maybe five hundred bucks to put anything you want on both sides and back of the boat. Just my .02

I always liked the maristar graphics better.
Now I really don't like the X-graphics. Are these all the choices? I think it would look better with just a wide band of color on a white hull. Or reverse gelcoat colors.

I saw a 2006 X1 up north, it was blue and white at the transom area, this colour set up looked sick. Super clean, classy. But the graphics in that link look stupid, grey and yellow like that looks horrible.

blue and red? what were they thinking? I mean, it probably wouldn't look bad in some other scheme, but with that layout it just looks horrible and illplaced.

If I'm not mistaken, it was MasterCraft that originated the trend of solid color hulls with giant badge-style logo on the side-center with their second generation X-Stars. Even the first gen X-Star I believe was the first boat to run a solid color hull in a bright color. Before that, everybody was still doing the horizontal-stripes-following-below-the-rub-rail thing, even the first gen Air Nautiques still pretty much had that going. So if MC started the trend (which I believe they did) and that trend has been so universally copied and now is so mainstream that it may have become... dare I say... tedious? Maybe that is too harsh, how about complacent? Yeah, better... Anyway, MC started the previous trend, it is fitting they should be the ones to drive the first nail it its coffin. Others will follow, mark my words. Three or four years from now, everybody will be running a new trend in graphics. It always works this way.

Stairmaster... that's pretty silly.

All true doc octagon. I think that when you shell out 40-60K for a boat, you do want it to look good. However, your reason for buying a boat in the first place cannot be dictated by the graphics...I would think it would have to be the overall utility of the boat. Does it seat enough people comfortably? Does it have enough storage? And most importantly is the wake worth a Shiz or not? Lastly would be what colors or graphics they have available. That's just not the way to dispose of that much income.

I kind of like some of the new graphics on the boats. The X-star one is a sticker so if you don't like it I'm pretty sure you could take if off.

MC cerntainly thinks outsides the box for a lot of their products. I don't see too many pickle forks out there. Who was the first inboard company to offer the throttle by wire? Right, it was MC, it just took everyone else a year to catch up. That's kind of the trend in the boating industry.

Wally..... your name says it all. Your statements are completely subjective. Why not actually justify something you say. MC's are great boats. That said, there are a ton of other great boats too. If you don't like the price of an MC, then look somewhere else, but so far as I've found you pay more up front and sell for more at the end. It all pretty much works out.

Anyway, the pickelfork is just an updated tri-hull. That was another great design, but maybe before it's time. Why wouldn't you want a boat that's the same length, but has way more room up front.

Oh….. A guy that hides behind an alias screen name so he can make ridiculous statements without revealing his true identity. An Nautique or Malibu sales guy perhaps? Or something equally as slimy?

Wallyworld: have you owned so many boats that you know this for a fact? What experiences do you have to compare? I've owned Malibu and MC. The MC was cheaper than the Malibu and so far it's just as solid. Give us some examples.

xstar is in a league of its own in my opinion.....malibu doesnt even build their stringers out of pressure treated wood....MC has all the prime that put them in theyr price range...
Old     (madchild1)      Join Date: Mar 2005       08-26-2005, 11:48 PM Reply
i think malibu doesn't build their stringers out of pt for a reason.

from what i have seen the xstar is grossly overpriced. but with the laws supply and demand it is clearly thriving. mc could easily see sales and profit margins grow at astronomical rates by simply lowering the xstar price 10k-15k.

Of all the wakes I have ridden, the new x-star wake is the most insane IMO. You get freakishly huge air.
I love riding behind them, but they are so unique, it is hard to adjust to another wake.

Does anyone have experience riding behind the 06 x2?
I am wondering if it will have a wake like the current x-star, or the current x2.

why pay for mastercrafts advertising, athlete endorsements, poor managment, and in general high overhead when you can get a better quality boat (and better looking) for a LOT less. I sold my prostar for a SAN, and now im selling it for an 06 VLX. I've never seen so many simple things go apeSH%T in a boat than in MC's. Yes they throw a bombdiggity wake but nothing exceptionally unordinary for 20k+! do the math folks and factor in the x-factor (the ugliest damn graphics to ever hit the water)
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       08-27-2005, 8:16 AM Reply
You guys are saying extra 20k but this is only the case with the Xstar. You're paying extra for R&D on a new hull and for the name XSTAR. Do a more fair comp like, LSV to X-Star

Don't forget resale. What you spend on a boat is ultimately what you loose when you sell it. I think Xstar owners are loosing less than most Malibu owners, so who is really spending more? If you are loosing less, you’re spending more. I still see used X2s selling for what I paid brand new.

I've owned both (05 X2 and 01 Wakesetter lsv). The MC X2 feels more solid to me, has a lot more power and performs better in many areas for what I use it for. But I think it lacks workmanship in the interior department compared to the Malibu. The Malibu is just a more comfortable, plush boat. And although my X2 wake is awesome, I do miss the Malibu wake. So far, no problems with my x2 aside from little interior issues. My Malibu with 760 hours never went into the shop for anything more than a scheduled service. Both are awesome boats.

In my experience and opinion, the 2 mfgers have there good and bads in different areas.

j-rod, the typical malibu owner loses about 5-8% after the first year with a normal amount of hours and i believe the mc's are there as well.

Ringo you're going from a SAN to a Malibu?

They are two totally different wakes? SAN wake insanely big, steep, hard and pops you straight up. When weighted it still turns on a dime. VLX wake = large soft ramp with no pop? With the wedge down and weighted the worst handling boat ever made. They are completely different.

Old     (ralph)      Join Date: Apr 2002       08-28-2005, 12:03 AM Reply
Have you ridden the new 05-06 VLX Pat? I rode a 05 VLX with a lot of weight in it + wedge and it was extremely big & had so much pop I was reduced to cutting at 1/2 speed. Impressive.

Try Riding behind a new Malibu than compare the diffrence. With the hydrolic wedge down 3/4 of the way it applys 1000 pounds of weight more than the old wedge all the way down

I love my SAN and would not upgrade if it wasn't for the opportunity for investment. sell my 00 and add an extra 5-10 k to upgrade to an 06 vlx under warranty and still be able to sell it and make cash down the road! I work for a malibu dealer so I am having problems passing up this opportunity. I feel others out there would do the same.
Old    bambamski            08-28-2005, 8:47 AM Reply

the next door neighbor at my buddies cabin has a new VLX. He tows all the kids because the wake is really clean at lower speeds (big ramp no peak)where mine isn't. When I'm there he spends more time behind my boat and I'm thinking there may be a new boat on his lift next year. I guess we'll have to find someone else to pull the kids now.

Ringo, I've never thought of a boat as an investment. Did you think about what you just said. You can sell your 2000 SAN which is 6 years old and buy a brand new VLX for a couple of grand more. Supply demand tells me more people are willing to buy the SAN. The SAN is one of the best boat ever made, that's a serious trade down IMO. Cobalt to a Bayliner...
Old     (auto)      Join Date: Aug 2002       08-28-2005, 4:48 PM Reply
Pat that statement is just asinine, severely mis-informed. Last time I saw an 01 SAN it was 35k, a new 05-06 BU VLX was 52-55, just a little more than a few thousand, must be some of that new math.

Not according to new boat sale statistics from last year. I believe Natutique was 3rd or 4th place for units sold.

hahahahaha I knew that would get the Malibu owners panties in a knot.

I'm not the one that said they could sell their 6 year old SAN and buy a new VLX for 5-10 grand more (check out Ringo's post). That's pretty good resale on the SAN. Will there still be that much more demand for the 6 year old VLX? A 2000 VLX is worth 27000 according to NADA.

Bayliner sells how many more boats than Cobalt? That must mean they are better boats then right?

I'm pretty sure an owner could sell their 6 year old Cobalt and buy a brand new Bayliner for 5-10 grand more as well.

Enjoy your Gayliner boys hahaha

Guys: Ringo WORKS for a Malibu dealer which means he gets boats slightly above cost probably.

Under normal circumstances, an extra 5-10K wouldn't cut it. The new VLXs are in much higher demand than the 210s. Especially in the bay area. Dealers are holding on to the VLXs and getting top $ for them.

I'm not a BU owner. But I still found your statement inaccurate.

The Nautique is a more expensive boat to start with. So it's going to worth more when it's older. But, I would agree that Nautiques hold their value better anyway.

Old     (madchild1)      Join Date: Mar 2005       08-29-2005, 1:00 AM Reply
how dare you compare malibu to a bayliner, that's an iunsult to the entire industry because cc, mc, and bu are all equal in overall quality, they all make outstanding watercraft, but my obervations are as follows: the 210 is extremely outdated, the mastercrafts are WAAAYY overpriced and malibu's are getting overpriced. the quality is equal on all 3mfgs. the reason malibu is ahead in sales every year, and take near 25% of market share btw, is that they offer an extremely high-quality product with the some of, if not, the most advances and hull redesigns.

i am not trying to start a firefight here because i know everyone has brand loyalty for one reason or another(i think you can see mine ) but i guess it is now imminent.

I really dont have any brand loyalty, I like almost every boat i have ever ridden. The issue of mastercraft pricing is an interesting one.......I have struggled with the idea of getting a lot more boat and a wake I love out of a centurion avalanche for 40 grand......or less boat and a wake I love out of mastercraft.

The conclusion I have come to is simply that mastercraft is that while mastercraft imo is overpriced, they hold value better than any boat on the market. People buy "right" and sell years later for almost the same price. It really helps justify the payment knowing you are actually building equity in something.

I am not positive on Malibu resale, but I do notice there is a lot of reasonably priced used ones around.

Lets get back to the point.......

I really like the new mastercrafts, the only thing i didnt like was the two tone x45.

Wow I've been called an idiot twice now by Vandall!! Hopefully you can average me out.

Malibu is a price point boat. It always has been and always will be. The reason they sell more boats then CC is because they're 10 grand cheaper. If they were the same price their sales would plummet. Nautique is a better overall boat hands down. They have a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty on their products. What's the Bu warranty?? Does BU offer a lifetime gelcoat warranty like MC? I didn't think so.

I shouldn't compare it to a bayliner I suppose. I don't want to offend all the bayliner owners out there.

Pat can you please tell me what the wake on the 247 is like compared to a san because i've been dying to hear some more misinformed expertise!

just another post by a biased consumer.

I'm not sure I like the grafitti graphics. The x-1 graphics are nice; however, I was just starting to like the huge x-series graphics. I think a test market with extreme changes in graphics would have been a good idea. Hey, maybe this is the test? Also, outside of graphics the boat is basically the same. Still recouping r&d costs from the last hull overhall I suppose.

As far as boat constructions goes: the interrior of the xstar is much nicer then the x2. The seats are far more comortable. Way more space in the xstar. Everything about the xstar is a step up from the x2. Yeah, I still love the x2, but it doesn't compare to the xstar.

The xstar isn't priced to be the best bang for the buck. Its priced as the best. Obviously, everone has their opinion about whats the best. Seems that a lot of opinions are largley based on the thickness of ones wallet.

"Everything about the xstar is a step up from the x2." Couldn't disagree more. It's just a DIFFERENT step.

I thought the Xstar interior was a step down. It feels plain and cold to me. Again just my opinion.

But I still see the Xstar as more of a family wakeboat because of the size. The X2 is strictly sport to me. I already owned a family wakeboat (LSV). This time I wanted a small, basic, sport boat with a killer wake that everyone one loves. When camping with large groups was my thing, I liked the big boats. Now big boats just mean more lead, harder to tow, more to clean, more expensive, and more gas.

Just a quick thought about the original subject of the post.

When I saw the first pictures of the grafitti graphics, I thought they were pretty fugly. But, last night I was at Double Up Del Noche in Lake Geneva, Wi. They had two of the 06' X-stars with the grafitti graphics. One was red and white, the other was black and white. The white on both boats was to the front, and the black and red to the back. They both looked pretty badass, with the black and white looking the best.

Just my 2 cents, tho.
