any one know what Harf got for going to Ronix. did they give him the Ferrari or did they just give him enough $$$ to be able to buy one.

Hahaha. Joe, it's the new ad in Alliance and hanging on the wall at OWC. Says something like "Thanks for selling out" and shows him holding the key to a ferrari thats behind him.

Harf drives a BMW 745i, I don't think that Farrari is his. I'm still a little sketchy on what the ad means though.

maybe he's thanking hyperlite for selling out?

the ronix ad reads: D.HARF CONGRATS ON SELLING OUT

with danny harf kneeling down holding a key to a ferrari, like he's on MTV cribs.

I kind of took it as a joke or a mock....everyone is afraid to "sell out" in their industry or sport. Atleast thats what they always say. If you make it on mtv as a band you are selling out...which i guess is the same as making dough. So maybe he's got the car behind him and the key in his hand symbolising his success. I kind of thought they were poking fun at the new Co and his bad a** style and career. Just a guess :-)

Yeah, I think it's a joke that pretty much makes fun of everybody that says a rider is "selling out" when they move to a new company. Remember the cries when Byerly went to Hyperlite. Many thought for sure the world was coming to an end.

I'm pretty sure Danny didn't pick up a Ferrari from this little start up company.

Thats great!

Whats the opposite of "Sell Out"?

IDIOT.

Actually, Danny and the other big names, turned down a lot of money from HL in going to Ronix. I heard it was a 1-2K per year he losing from HL in going to Ronix

yomo,

1-2k per year?

you've got to be kidding me with that post. that's hardly a paycut.
Old     (blake_hughes)      Join Date: May 2004 Location: Weatherford, Texas       09-25-2006, 5:30 AM Reply
That's about a $1.00/hr pay cut, for the 40hr/week type... How do they expect them to eat?!?

Ha, ha, I was wondering about that ad too. Actually I was looking at the cheesy a$$ Ferrari key wondering if they still made keys that look like for keys. I was thinking they'd go up market with some laser cut keys or something. I'd be bummed if that's what I got with my Ferrari.

Anyone checked out the signing bonus link they give at the bottom of the page. I don't have the mag here or I'd check it. Maybe later.

100k-200k cut?? How much do the big names make?? I don't need to hear any names, that's their business in my opinion. I'd just like to see a ballpark amount, if anyone knows.

1-2k cut - Who cares
100-200k cut - No Way

Maybe it was 10 to 20k

Pro Wakeboarders don't make that kind of money. Not even close.

I dont know Paul, did you see the interview with parks in Alliance, "Yea, it was kinda nice to make an extra $50 - $60 thousand dollars a year, but I dont depend on it..." Sounds like he's making a pretty good bit in order to not be affected by a 60 thousand dollar pay cut.
Old     (brownie)      Join Date: Feb 2006       09-27-2006, 8:00 PM Reply
that would of been about 10% Parks' deal with HL
Old     (projectely4)      Join Date: Apr 2003       09-27-2006, 8:27 PM Reply
he isn't saying that he is not affected by the loss of 50k but he doens't dpend on it since it isn't certain that he will get that money every year. its like a bonus to him
Old     (dekay)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-27-2006, 8:50 PM Reply
Wakeboarders who win do make that kind of money. My coach, Dean Lavelle, told me that there was a time when he was making 500K per year. That's more than enough to buy a Ferrari and support yourself for the rest of the year, without winning a single competition.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       09-27-2006, 10:03 PM Reply
no disrespect to dean lavelle, but back when he was riding, NO ONE was making $500k/year, even if it's combined income from all their sponsors. if you include the price of the boat, maybe they made $100k...
Old     (ktmwakeboarder)      Join Date: Jun 2004       09-27-2006, 11:31 PM Reply
I agree with Joe on the income... $500k is way too high IMO, particularly back then. Anyway, Dean is awesome :-)
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       09-28-2006, 8:11 AM Reply
Wow, we could speculate like this everyday. LOL.

Parks drives a S500, Harf drives a 745I.... They both own houses on lakes. I wouldn't say they are suffering for a couple guys that aren't 25 yet.
Old     (wmk)      Join Date: Oct 2005       09-28-2006, 8:26 AM Reply
I wouldn't think that $500k would be an unreasonable amount of money for people the top in the sport, assuming most of that money comes from sponsors.
Old     (magellan)      Join Date: Feb 2003       09-28-2006, 8:59 AM Reply
Dean made 500K.
That's awesome.

sounds unrealistic.

Were there even $500,000 in board sales back then?
Old     (innov8)      Join Date: May 2005       09-28-2006, 9:03 AM Reply
Lets just say that just FOX alone pays Harf alot of money.
Old     (bennygoodx)      Join Date: Aug 2006       09-28-2006, 10:00 AM Reply
Even at 500k per year, half goes to the gov.

So, you now have $20k per month net. That ride financed is $3,500 per month. Insurance and their required maintenance will run a solid $750 per month. So realistically, you're at $4,500 per month just to own the thing. That's a stretch even for someone making $500k per year. Most people I've met or known who have those cars are in the 7 digit category.
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-28-2006, 10:03 AM Reply
Not arguring the fact that the car isn't Harfs BUT, people banking 500K a year don't own cars like that. It's the people that arn't ranked in the # of K's a year that own those.
Old     (jason_ssr)      Join Date: Apr 2001       09-28-2006, 11:14 AM Reply
1. There is that kind of money for the top riders.

2. Cars like that are leased as well.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       09-28-2006, 11:16 AM Reply
You guys are on crack.... Ben, you could easily finance the 745I for around $1200 a month with nothing down and a decent credit score. Not to mention maintanence is free on BMW's while they're under warranty and the insurance would be around $200/month or less if you aren't an idiot.

The Ferrari isn't that much crazier. Those are $185k-ish new. I was looking last night. That's close to a 3k payment. If you're banking 500k/per year those numbers are nothing. What's a 3k payments when you take home $25k/month after taxes.

Get real... I've got well more than the 745 tied up in my rides and close to the Ferrari if you include my boat and I'll tell you that I don't make close to $500k.

Besides which.... We are speculating what these guys make. They'd probably laugh if they saw this thread. I'm sure we're not close.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       09-28-2006, 11:18 AM Reply
Sorry Ben, I see you are probably referring to the Ferrari, not the B-em. Still that cash doesn't mean much to someone making $500k, especially in Florida.

This is from Dallas Fridays website, http://www.dallasfriday.com/faq.html

Q: How much money do you make?
A: This is my least favorite question. To make it easy I will just say at the age of 15 I was earning in the 6 digits.
Old     (mikel)      Join Date: Nov 2004       09-28-2006, 11:58 AM Reply
Which means breaking into $100,000 or so. Possible for her and the top male riders.

yeah, may 2005 issue of wbm:

WBM: "best year?"

Darin Shapiro: "$400,000 ($150,000 in prize money) -- those were the days"

in the same issue collin wright said his best year was $55,000

bonus...

WBM: "why do you ride?":

DS: "for the money and the exposure..."

i respect his honesty.

Harf is the man! Love the ad and the license plate. But compared to the ingenuity behind the Half cab double backroll it's miniscule. Certainly impressive, but simple in design. I'm suprised the Vandall never pulled it.
