Although my boat is broken, I am know the owner of a pair of Wetsounds Pro 80s. I cannot even tell you how nice and well made they are. Even the packaging is engineered perfectly. I will post pics and review them as soon as I hook them up.

Be careful. If they are too loud, they may cause something else to break on your boat.

Just kidding.

I am eager to hear what you think. I have a neighbor who loves my Addictions, but for the simple issue of diversity, he's considering the Pro 80's. It also looks like you could get by with less wattage.

I have heard the 1010s in person and was really impressed, that is why I decided to get some HLCD speakers. Due to size, price, weight, and overall engineering, I decided to go with the Wetsounds pro 80s. I am so impressed with everything about these speakers, everything about them is engineered precisely. Nothing homemade about these speakers. I cant wait to do a water test with them, I wont be able to until I fix the head gasket problem on my boat.

Thats my friend Billy posing.

The speakers are amazing. I blasted them this morning. My head unit was set to 25. I am not sure what the head unit goes up to, but i went up to 33 and decided not to go that loud. I also turned the gain down a little on both speakers. These are great speakers, I recomend them to anyone who wants to hear music while they ride (and piss off their neighbors).

Leo,
In comparison to the 1010's you heard?

They look awesome on the tower Leo. How does that amp sound on them? I'm guessing you have it bridged to 400 RMS per speaker?
Old     (malibuboarder75)      Join Date: Jan 2004       05-19-2006, 11:59 AM Reply
Yes Adam, They sound amazing. Its 200w RMS per speaker (total 400w RMS). The amp is the perfect size, I turned down the gain just a little, not much. I turned my head unit up to 25 and they are seriously loud. I dont think I will ever need to turn them past 25 (I went to 33 just for fun).

Leo, Which amp are you using? I think I saw it somewhere, but can't find it now. Thanks.

Can you get different grills? Those are less than appealing.
Old     (wetsounds1)      Join Date: Jan 2006       05-19-2006, 3:25 PM Reply
Lucky275,

Sorry you are not a fan of the grill. Everyone loves it!

But some have asked for a standard grill too.

So, we will be offering a metal mesh grill option as well.

They will be available very soon.

Tim,

I've just bought a 2004 wakesetter xti and I am looking at putting some tower speakers up. I dont guess we could work out a deal on a new w3c compliant, css-based, accessible, search engine optimized (seo) website for a pair or two of the 80s or 485's?

:-) Seriously...

Wow, so many questions. I was in Mississippi riding on my friends 205.

talltigeguy-in comparison to the 1010's, I have to say they are really close. I would think that 2 pairs of these would easily beat out a pair of 1010s. The sound quality and sound projection is amazing. I have not water tested them, but I have blasted them then walked behind a forrest and could still hear them from 100yds away with trees and brush in the way.

Robb- I am using an audiobahn a4004t. I know it is a relatively cheap amp, you can get one on ebay for under $100 shipped. The reason I got a cheap amp is because I dont want to dish out $300+ on an amp that is going to be in water conditions. I think the amp powers this thing beautifully. It puts out 200w RMS to each speaker, so I turned the gain down just a hair. I played these for about 15minutes straight with no signs of over heating. On our boat, we never play the music turned up high longer then 10 minutes (unless the rider never falls).

Steve- I think the tower I have is 1 7/8" diameter. I used the 2" fitting + the tape and it locked down perfectly.

I would recommend these speakers to anyone who wants to hear their music while riding. The guys at wetsounds have put so much time and thought into these speakers that $850 is a steal for a pair. I was hesitant to dish out that kind of money (I can't believe I bought them without hearing them in person), but once you listen to these in person and hear the quality and volume that these speakers produce, you will never think of buying anything else.

Jay,

The PRO 80's use one of our Pro-Axial driver's per pod. It is an 8 inch mid bass and HLCD coaxially mounted. So there is an 8 inch mid bass driver and a HLCD driver "piggybacked" to the mid bass. The PRO 485 uses 2 of our 8 inch mid bass drivers and our HLCD driver in the center. Both models shard our EFG cone material for the mid bass drivers.

With the PRO 80, you get 1 8 inch mid bass and 1 HLCD per pod. With the 485, you get 2 8 inch mid bass drivers and 1 larger HLCD per pod.

We have been selling both models and many variations.

1 pair of PRO 80's, 2 Pair of PRO 80's, 1 pair of PRO 485, Single PRO 485, 2 pairs of PRO 485's and our Threesome which is one pair of PRO 80's with a single 485 in the center.

It all depends on your sound goals and personal taste as well as your tower.

Tim

Clayton, I ordered mine on Monday or Tuesday (not sure), and I got them on thursday with UPS Ground. Basically because the shipping zone from TX to LA is only 2 days.

We can recommend what we are using and have tested and gotten feedback on from our dealers.

We are running the new Arc Audio Foose amps in our MB. Running the FD 4100 which will put out 2 x 180 at 4 ohms on the PRO 80's. And running the FD 4150 which will put out 320 x 2 at 4 ohms for the PRO 485.

The Zapco 750.2 is great for the PRO 80's at 175 x 2 and the 1000.4 for the PRO 485's at 500 x 2 or for the "Threesome" Also, have some guys who did the 1000.4 for 4 PRO 80's.

We have also had great results with the new Massive Audio amps. The P400.2 for the PRO 80's which will put out 200 x 2 at 4 ohms. And the P800.4 for the PRO 485's which will put out 400 x 2 at 4 ohms.

We have had a lot of dealers using the JL marine amps and have given us good feedback. The e 4300m in 2 mode. 150 x 2.

There are so many options out there. My advice to everyone. Try to listen to them. If you can't do that. Make sure you compare specs to specs.

Try to make sure you look at what voltage the rating is at and what ohms the rating is at and what ohms you will be running it.

Maybe Grant or Clay can chime in. I know they just did a system with some large Rockford amps.

Ill talk to Clay and set up a demo, We have a set of the 485's right now that ready to listen to on Mikes SV-211. If your looking at hearing a set of Pro 80's let me know. Ill have to get a set from Tim .

Richard's Sanger with 2 sets of pro 80's was real clean. Super loud and nice and clear. I guess it didnt hurt that he had 2 15's pounding away that added to the sound. When I heard Richards boat it was inside at the shop so it was REAL loud, I didnt get to listen to his boat on the water, But we did the test a month back with the Pro 80's and the 485's and I know what they sounded like

Their website says they have a proprietary design. That means it's one they invented for their own specific purpose.

So, to answer your question, yes. It's a wetsounds 8" speaker.

i have the rockford 800.4 powering 4 single pro 80's on my tower..they seem to be pretty darn loud.. still havent had a chance to test them on the water though...

The guys at wetsounds designed everything on the speaker from the ground up. All the materials are super strong and all marine grade designed and approved by them.
