Congrats on the new boat!

Nope I was there at 9:30 am this morning liljohn beat me to the punch on the photos. The truck came from Tenn and was dropping a boat off to Bake's before heading down to Cali. There were 3 boats on the trailer and 2 of them are headed to Cali.

All malibus are being made in Tenn. The delivery truck had one for bakes one for nevada and one for Dave! congrats Dave!

Wow, very cool to see the spy pics!! They said that BoatMate had "hooked it up" on the trailer, but I had no idea they were going that far with it!! Daaaayummm!! Looks amazing! The only thing that sucks is that I'm going to have to wash my truck now!!

Dave they did go all out on that trailer. It has all the goodies on it including the runway LED lighting all the way up the trailer. Looks dope you'll like it.

Awesome David, I wish I would have ran over there and saw the trailer before it left. I heard Owen or someone talking about it.

did bakes get a new 2010 with the new tower?

I heard that Malibu switched to Boatmate Trailers. Looks like the 2008 Supra Trailer for the Worlds Boat. Pretty sick for sure.

Bruce bakes did get one with the new tower but it was supposed to be delivered to the customer today it was already sold.

Dave
That trailer is pure sex, I am envious
Old     (wakeboardlasvegas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       08-31-2009, 6:31 PM Reply
So they went from Extreme to Boatmate?
Old     (cbrown)      Join Date: Jan 2004       08-31-2009, 6:35 PM Reply
Boatmate has always been available for Malibu. For the most part it depended on which side of the Mississippi River you were on and which factory built the boat. Most boats out of TN had Boatmates while most out of Cali had Extreme. There were a few other trailers that could have been ordered/dealer specific.
Old     (wakeboardlasvegas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       08-31-2009, 7:36 PM Reply
So since they are all being built in TN now, are they coming with Boatmates?
Old     (westsiderippa)      Join Date: Dec 2006       08-31-2009, 7:51 PM Reply
i would bet you will still see west coast boats that are dealer purchased on extreme, sports boat or dhm still maybe?
Old     (liljohn)      Join Date: May 2007       08-31-2009, 8:25 PM Reply
I know the one unloaded here is sitting on a Ryan.
Old     (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       08-31-2009, 8:32 PM Reply
I don't know why they'd bother with having trailers shipped across the country only to ship them back across the country with boats on them. I imagine they'll go with Boatmate, but what do I know.
Old     (westsiderippa)      Join Date: Dec 2006       08-31-2009, 8:36 PM Reply
i thought the boat and trailer shipped separate?
Old     (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       08-31-2009, 8:39 PM Reply
Not 100% sure about Malibu, but I work by Skiers and Supra/Moomba ship them with the trailers attached, even if they're stacked on trailers. They have a giant hoist that helps stack them.

I'm sure that I'm late on this news, but why are Malibus being built in Tenn now?
Old     (curtisco24)      Join Date: Dec 2005       09-01-2009, 12:00 PM Reply
You can actually request an smp trailer (sweetwater metal products) with a malibu as an option to boattmate. I personally think the smp trailer is a much stronger built trailer. Thats why I ordered one.
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-01-2009, 12:54 PM Reply
I think it depends on the dealer. I have seen quite a few in the Denver area with EZ Loader Illusion trailers on them.

That looks pretty nice! Can't wait to see more pics! Congrats!

Darren, Malibu has had a factory in Tennessee churning out boats for a few years now. The California plant is not currently building. I'm assuming it's because they aren't making as many boats with the slow economy, but I don't know that for a fact.

Cant wait to see the new WakeWorld boat Dave.

That trailer looks sick.

In an effort to keep it clean. I'm never taking that cover off, so get used to seeing that trailer!

Congrats Dave.. I love the trailer.. do you have matching wheels on the tow rig?
Old     (load)      Join Date: Jul 2003       09-01-2009, 4:59 PM Reply
Dave, that will save on gas too!

Look forward to seeing the finished product, did you sell the other yet?
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       09-01-2009, 5:08 PM Reply
No, I don't have matching wheels on my truck. I can't afford that shiz! :-) This is actually the first I'm seeing the wheels.

Doug, I gave the old one back to Malibu and I believe they just sold it. Not sure who ended up with it.

It was me! Oddly enough the new WW boat was being loaded onto the tractor trailer the day I picked up the old one.

It will be a great boat to finish the season in.

Jman,
I knew they had two plants, just wondering what was up with the one in Merced??
Even through my Mastercraft goggles I can still see a beautiful boat there. Love the all white.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       09-01-2009, 6:53 PM Reply
Damn, they hauled it all the way out there? Don't take those stickers off! :-) Let me know if you have any questions about it. The boat is in great shape, so you'll love it. I really didn't want to part with it. You wouldn't believe how many people have ridden behind it and remarked that it's the perfect wake!
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       09-01-2009, 6:54 PM Reply
Building in Tennessee since '92? I thought that plant was relatively new, like five years or so. Is that incorrect?

I'm not a fan of "big" logos on the side of boats. I think every manufacturer should give the buyer the option of having a smaller, toned down logo. Obviously, you can always order it with nothing, but I look at it like my truck. I don't mind that it says Chevrolet 3500 on the side, but I certainly wouldn't buy it if that was printed across both doors and half my bed! :-)

Yeah, David, they opened the TN plant in 1992. When I said that to myself, it didn't seem that long ago. Then I did the math. Time flys when you get old! Congratulations on your new boat!

How does the LR3 pull your boat, any issues rolling over foot hills?

Hey Dave what is that rectangular gray bump on the left side of the wedge under the swim platform? Is that something new on Malibu's? I noticed in one of the first pics but wasn't sure if it was a shipping thing.

I was wondering that myself. I think it has something to do with the salt-water package that they were kind enough to install. I think it's one of those things that attract all the metal attacking stuff so it doesn't latch onto any other metal parts. Just guessing though.
Old     (ralph)      Join Date: Apr 2002       09-03-2009, 6:50 PM Reply
"attract all the metal attacking stuff", is that the technical name for it?

Zinc anode possibly?
Old     (linder)      Join Date: Mar 2009       09-03-2009, 6:50 PM Reply
Its a zinc, for salt water use.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       09-03-2009, 10:17 PM Reply
Yeah, I know that sounds really stupid, but that's the extent of my knowledge. :-)

Its definitely a new thing for wakeboard boats, been using them on yachts and ships for years.

Dave that's your sacrificial annode that will corrode instead of the rest of the metal on the boat. Dave what engine did you get?

Will we see that on the water this weekend?

AP (Adam), sick ass boat man that looks so tight I love the white on white on white tight, tight sho ya right look. LOL. I may be giving credit where it's not due if those rims aren't paint matched. Are they?

Dave please post pics of you opening that little bit*h up like a kid on christmas!

getting a new boat is such a fun day!
Old     (wakeboardaddy)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-04-2009, 10:31 AM Reply
I believe the name for this problem is called "electrolysis" something to do with stray voltages getting into the water causing accelerated corrosion. the zinc block is supposed to be what takes all the corroding then you change it if it gets too bad.
Old     (slipknot)      Join Date: Aug 2001       09-04-2009, 11:48 AM Reply
Those Rims are DOPE!

Also Dave, do you have any plans to take it into salt water? Would love to hear a review of how it holds up in salt over the course of the year. When I bought my boat and was doing the research I could not find almost anything online about the salt water series Malibu's or reviews or testimonials which is pretty much why I went with a MC. I have always loved the look of the Malibus and after finally getting to ride behind one recently I may buy a Malibu next time if I know they hold up well in salt.

saltwater boat on a mild steel trailer?
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       09-04-2009, 2:41 PM Reply
No plans for salt water, but lots of brackish water. I never had problems with any of my other boats in the same waters and none of them even had salt water packages. The trailer is galvanized and painted.

No gif this time, but I did video the removal in HD. However, I have no idea how to edit my new camera's footage, so who knows how long it will take to get it rolling on here.
