My buddies and I ride a 2008 Super Air Nautique Team 220. I was curious as to what the ideal weight in the boat plus the factory 900ish pounds of ballast was? We usually go out with 4 of us. Therefore the boat is weighted with the 900lbs of factory ballast plus about 550 - 600 lbs of passenger weight. How much weight do people usually ride with in the 220? How much weight would be too much weight? I have additionally heard that when you go out with more weight the wake is better with the wakeplate in its default position of up, is this true? Or should it always give the wake a better shape with the plate down?
This boat is extremely hard to weight. I have tried about 10 different ways to weight it. The rooster tail washes the wake with a ton a weight even at 27mph. Basically put a 750 in the bow/ walkway and maybe a 400 in the center. Even with 250lbs in the rear lockers the wake peaks like a mad man and crests over.
I have a 07 220. I have found that about 2200 or 2400lbs. with passenger weight, work really good! More weight you add the faster you have to go for it to be awsome. Can't ride at 18mph or so. I ride around 21.5 to 24mph on glass.
we run stock then two 500 sacks in the back side by side between the seats. with usually 4 in the boat, 75' at 24.5-25. Not extremely consistent, but the best we've found with this boat. Still very finicky side to side
first of all you need to get perfect pass put in. zero off makes that boat porpos.
then you need to get the 230/220 power prop.
Then you need 450 on each side of the engine. 500 in the floor ( or under the bench seats) a 750 in the walk way. abd about 400 pounds of lead/water under the bow cushions.
hydro gate is in the 1 posistion.
If you miss one part of my instructions you might not be getting the best wake you can get.
It took us about a year to figuer all of these things out, with many head aches. But we love the wake now. biggest problem was the zero off making the boat porpose.
Robby, do you have any photos of this wake? I have tried almost this exact same set up. 400's in the lockers, 750 in the middle, and 1k up front and the wake was so terrible. All wash, it never cleaned up. Even at 27mph. We had the gate in 1.
