ah someone trying a little re i see. My guess is a XXX 18. You won't be dissappointed. I had two RE HC 15s before they discontinued the line. THey were some awesome subs. They like alot of power, i fed mine about 300 over the rms rating but be aware it will heat up the coils quite a bit. Also, the xbl^2 is going to take some getting used to if you have never heard a sub with it so be patient.Good luck man

thanks for the info. i went with re cause all i heard was good things about them. i cant wait to get them in the boat. ur right with 18xxx

Man, I have a 15 brahma. Sort of a cousin of the XXX. It is an absolutely wonderful woofer. xbl^2 is definitely my friend. But anyways, good luck and if you have any questions let me know. A friend of mine is a dealer/ repair tech and best friends with one of the head dudes at RE. Take it easy and have fun.

why would you need an 18xxx in a boat? seems like overkill...
Old    ratm3706            05-01-2005, 5:07 PM Reply
well, on that note, why would you need three w-7 in a boat.? Some people go for that type thing i guess. Same question for autos, why do people put in walls with several 15s. We will probably never know

I have to agree with daniel on this one.....people do it because they want to do it.

i already have 2 w-7s in my boat, but i needed more ballast so i bought 2 18xxx. i like speaker weight over filling up bags

Man, what kind of boat do you have? I am really getting confused by some of the people on this board. Granted, a boat is open air and a car is not but why on earth do you need this many woofers? I'm not slammin any of you but I'm just confused. I have one 15 in my tahoe and it is more than plenty. Are you using inefficient box designs? low amounts of power? What is it, I really would like to know. I am really curious.

I think it's more about bragging rights and just having cool stuff, than it is about how it sounds. You could probably get great sound with less subs, but then you couldn't say "hey, I've got 4 w7s taking 1500rms each!"

Same thing goes with cars. You can tweak an engine until you get tons of horse power, but in reality, you only use a fraction of that on a daily basis. But knowing the power is there 'if you need it' is half of the fun.

kraig is right it is mainly bragging rights and to show off.my boat is a 04 xstar. here is the goodies list. 2 jl500/1 1 jl450/4 1 jl300/4
2 orion2500d 2 18xxx 2 jl10w7 3 sets of jl componets 1 set of fusions.

everything is fully powered in some cases way more than the rms wattage. boxes are built to correct air space.
Old    ratm3706            05-03-2005, 10:10 AM Reply
What are the specs for the boxes for the two XXX woofers? Just wondering. Most ported boxes are around 7-8 cubic feet. IF you wanted to get some more SPL could definitely go larger. Might be cool to have your w7's take care of upper sub range and port your XXX's WAY low like 15hz to get the real low stuff. Just a thought.
Old    triplexracing            05-03-2005, 4:14 PM Reply
the boxes are sealed around 4.2 cubic feet each. for them to be ported they would have had to be around 7.5 at32hz which would have been to big to fit

Hey Dodge You say you have 2 W-7's right now what size are they?
Old    ratm3706            05-03-2005, 6:00 PM Reply
aww, too big to fit. That is sad. Yeah man, ported is the way to go if you can fit it. You know, If you could spare the room you could do a ported isobaric alignment. Give you amazing SQ and increased output without sacrificing 16 cubic feet. Would only use up 8ish if you can spare the room.
Old    triplexracing            05-03-2005, 9:12 PM Reply
the w7s are 10s
Old    whitechocolate            05-04-2005, 7:55 AM Reply
And you say you have the 10's in a 4.2 cubic foot box?
Old    whitechocolate            05-04-2005, 9:11 AM Reply
Sorry I should have read the whole thread before I posted my stupid question's. "My Bad"

So what I have gained is,
#1 Dodge has 2 10inch W-7's in 2 boxes that are 4.2 Cubic feet each both are sealed.

Well thats like 4 times the size a sealed W-7 needs to be in, For Example a 12 W-7 need s 1.375 cubic feet, Thats a little over a foot, You say you have a smaller sub in a 4.2 cubic foot box. Humm, Either Im reading things wrong or someone dosent know wtf they are doing.

So mabey that explanes why you are needing to add more sub's. Because your sub's are in a box more than 4 times to big.

Ryan M: asked "WHY" Why do you need so many sub's. Good question.

Daniel: answerd "why would you need three W-7's in a boat.?

Kraig: answerd for bragging right's,

Are you for real? Who here knows what they are talking about. Please raise your hand. I try not to burn people and try to help out as much as possable. But every once in a while I feel like I must say somthing.

IMO
people add subs for diffrent reasons, Some might ad for "bragging rights" But IMO you look pretty stupid when you have 2 10's in a box 4 times the size for them and 18inch sub and when its finsihed a guy with 1 well tuned 12 sub Out-pounds to death, So I guess the Bragging rights is out the window in that case. LOL

Some people add subs to have the most bass, and make you look. You hear them every day Boom Boom Boom down the road in the ghetto car's LOL.

I add subs to even out the sound.
It seems the current trend is to Add HCLD long throw speakers to your tower or add 50 6X9's to your tower and a million watts.

"NEWS FLASH" unless your Bass can keep up with your tower your system sounds like well lets just say a little sharp.

Most people could use a extra sub in there boat, All the boats I hear on the lake are all High's
its rare that you hear a boat thats even or Bass heavy. But in cars thats all you hear bass heavy cars no high's, Boat or car try to match your sound.

RANT OVER

Hmm, Don't really know how to respond to that. Or if I even should. But whatever. Grant, in my car it is flat. I will not say perfectly flat because there is hardly anything that is perfect. However, as best as a linear-x RTA can tell it is. Do I have a ported 15, yes, but I also have plenty of power going to CDT components. Is the 15 too much, no, not if you can control yourself and the sub volume knob. HOWEVER, if I want to roll up to a SPL meter and let it hang loose I can. Now, to my knowledge that is what dodge is pretty much trying to do. He has 4 extremely good woofers that he wants to use. By putting a sub in a box larger than it needs to be, he is making the sub much more efficient, extending the low end, and cutting the mechanical power handling down. IF that is what he wants to do then that works for him. Some people on this board have several high end woofers in tiny sealed boxes that are giving there subs extreme amounts of power. If they had wanted to save money they could have put those woofers in more efficient boxes, used a bit more space and not had to worry about cooking the coils every other week. However, they would have to be careful with them since they could push them past their mechanical limits. And yes, I hate it just as much as I'm sure you do when people with too much money and not enough sense waste money on woofers only to put them in the wrong application. But I have a question when you said you add subs to even out the sound, who are you evening it out for, yourself or the people on the lake around you? I'm sure you've noticed that bass caries a bit more than High end frequencies. Granted your on a lake so everything carries but neglecting that. Anyhow, don't want to start a war, just wan't to understand why people do what they do

No, I'm not mad or anything and I respect the work you've done and I'm sure your going to do. Like I said I could care less to start an arguement on a messege board. I really posted on this thread just because I saw a guy using an awesome brand that isn't seen often. Then I got curious becuase I saw that he was using several woofers. I also don't want to come off as an imature know it all kid becuase that is not what i am. For what it's worth, I respect your work.
