We just got our Tomcats in yesterday. I have been riding behind one for the past two days. We are very excited about these boats. If you are in the market for a new boat, GO! check one out at you're local dealer

Whats up Greg. This is Alan from Southern Ski Boats, the VA MB dealer. Eric Gerner told me you were selling MB's too. We have been having a blast behind our Tomcats. We have been using one to shoot a new Beyond Silver Movie with Eric, Adam Fields, Travis Propst, Brian Reeder, etc, and another for an Alliance shoot last wednesday. Everyone is really impressed with the wake and we still are not adding extra weight, besides bodies and camera equipment.

IMO, I think that is the ugliest boat in production today. Just my opinion.

I actually like looks of the Tomcat, takes me back to the good ol' go fast boat days. Something that you could party it up in at the sandbar or London Bridge, and still get a decent pull on the river glass. Probably does well with the ladies, too.

I had an opportunity to ride in Cobe's Tomcat at one of the Canyon comps this year, not a bad ride. Rode behind it, I think there was a lot of weight in it (took a while to reach speed), wake was decent, nothing spectacular, but definitely ridable/fun. Didn't get to drive it, or spend a lot of time kicking the tires, so to speak.

That being said, might be worth checking out further, but this will probably be as far as I go with this boat, Still love my SAN, have family in the Malibu business, next boat will be a VLX (one of my all time favorite rides), not a bad place to be.

All I can say is lose the tower....
How about offering it with the tower that's on my 220V and buy it with the ZR6 and the 2 speed tranny.
I would bet it would out pull the 8.1 and not try to dive like a sub every time you crossed a wake...lol

I'm sure I've posted it before, and I dont own a MB. There is a very well respected boat mechaninc hear in town, has no affiliation to any boat. FWIW, he made the comment to me once, if you want a name, go buy a (Insert your big 3 name here), it you want a truly incredibly built boat, go buy a MB. This was this last year. This is a guy who fixes everything from fiberglass, to motor. He gets inside, and has seen all kinds of boats. I agree about the graphics tho.

Does the exaggerated picklefork give any added value other than the visual aspect, which is truely...subjective?

From the pics anyway, it looks as though it adds a good foot or so to the length, which could be key for gettng it into a garage...
Old     (alans)      Join Date: Aug 2005       11-03-2006, 8:32 AM Reply
It is extremely difficult to dunk the nose and the boat gives a nice dry ride in rough water...other than that is all visual.
Old     (batman)      Join Date: Nov 2001       11-03-2006, 7:15 PM Reply
I also rode with Cobe in Knoxville, TN and this boat is awesome. The 375 hp pulled this boat great. The tower is very solid and the boats takes on double ups better than anything I have ridden in and thats about all of them. No added weight needed as this pup puts out a great wake. If you haven't seen it in person, you are missing out on a great looking boat. The pictures do not do it justice. We tried our best to bury the nose and couldn't do it fully loaded and stopping in the middle of some big double ups and figure eights. Don't have any negatives personally.

Are they trying to make a nautique back end with a mastercraft front end? I can't follow the lines and like them but to each their own. The wake looks decent. Best of luck to MB with their new model.
Old     (mikejessup)      Join Date: Jul 2005       11-04-2006, 11:34 PM Reply
So Mike you say it doesn't need any weight but then you had it fully loaded... Which one is it
Old    kvanderg            11-05-2006, 9:13 AM Reply
I was hoping there was REASON someone would make a boat this ugly... you know:

1) It costs $10 to buy
2) Runs on solar power
3) Can tow it through the mountains with a Toyota Tercel
4) Puts out anything from a tournament slalom wake to 5' wall of water and eveything in between at the touch of a button.
5) Self cleaning
6) Change on the fly hull and interior colour combinations/graphics
7) Doesn't require servicing or winterizing
8) Get $15 back when you trade up to a new one
9) Etc.

But it sounds just like a regular boat only REALLLLLLLY ugly.

I just love how people put down boats because they own a different brand. It's that whole "Ford/Chevy" thing. I'd rather paddle and MB than motor with a Malibu! J/K. I love all boats. It took a while but I am starting to like the pickle fork. That goes for MC, MB and all others. If I had the room and the $$ I'd get one.

Besides the graphics, and the tower, I think it looks just fine. Much better than the CC 220, or the epic. Those are the two ugliest boats on the water IMO......and its just opinion. If somebody else like it, that is great. That is why we have so many boats to choose from.

Johhny,

I assume you are refering to me... and I think you misinterpreted my message... so here it goes.

I like ALL kinds of boats... as a matter of fact I can list at least 1 boat from almost every manufacturer that I really like... that includes MB. There are way more boats I like than the ones I dislike.

The real question is unless the Tomcat can do something very special as compared to its competition... why make it so FUGLY and;therefore, any harder than it has to be to sell in a very competitive market.

I would rather motor a Tomcat than paddle my Malibu... I guess that makes you far more closed minded than I
Old     (surfnfury65)      Join Date: Aug 2004       11-05-2006, 1:52 PM Reply
Not directed at you. I have seen so many posts on here that start off with how do you like this boat and then it starts to get nasty. I was just kidding about the paddle part. I was refering to those "I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy" stickers. I like Malibu boats. I will admit when I saw the first picklefork boat I thought it was very ugly. Like when Chevy changed there body style in 99/00. I thought it was ugly but I like it now. I'm not on here to offend anyone so sorry if I did.

Johnny... thats cool. I know what you mean... there are a real mix of people on here and some just need a shovel taken to the back of their head. Your not one of them... and I hope I'm not one either

There are so many boats I like and would grateful to go for a pull behind; however, when you start talking about spending $60K-$85K (CDN) on a boat... I start getting a little bit fussy about the details, performance AND how it looks.

I just hope a friend or family member never buys a Tomcat... that would be like getting a BBQ brush for X-mas and have to say how much you like it so as not to hurt anyones feelings

By the way... I love the way the Epic looks... snow camo all the way

TackleBerry,

If you took a poll and 90% of the tournament boat buying public thinks this boat is FUGLY... would it still be just an opinion... or could you, for all intents and purposes, say the dam boat is FUGLY already?

Jeez

I have had a lot of people out in the Tomcat over the past few months, cutomers, pros, video crews, photographers, etc. Didn't have a single person not like the boat. Its just one of those boats you have to see in person. I personally think the Tomcat makes the X-Star look like a train wreck.

How do you get the 90% figure? Did you take a poll? Did that poll include all boat buyers or was it just a sample of 90% haters? I'm calling 100% bullsh.t

I will have to agree....just saw the TOMCAT this weekend....WOW. I have never been a huge fan of the picklefork, but this boat ( still dont like the tower) is awesome. And I agree. I have spent some time in the X-Star. This is head and shoulders above it.

MB makes a killer product, in my opinion, a lot better than a lot of its competition. I have ridden behind and/or owned just about every boat wake/ski boat that has been built since 1975. I think that there are a lot of great boats out there. The Tomcat is a very impressive boat from many different perspectives, wake, performance, quality of build, size, ride quality, and price. I do not post on wakeworld to sell boats, I sell plenty of boats, and I enjoy wakeworld mostly to check out new product and look at pics of people's boats. The only thing that gets to me is when some kid posts about something that he has no clue about. MB makes less than 1/10th the number of boats that the other "big 3" manufaturers make, and that is all MB wants to build. They are not for everyone, they are for serious riders, 2500 lbs of ballast produces too much wake for 70% of the kids on this forum. If you find youself stacking an additional 2k of ballast in your X-Star, sounds to me like it is time for an upgrade. Thats what I did....and the next thing I know I am an MB dealer. That is how good MB is. Don't knock it till you try it.
Old     (woreout)      Join Date: Aug 2006       11-06-2006, 1:11 PM Reply
alans. How did you own a boat in 1975 when you were born in 1980? I dont think anyone here has been downing the quality of Tige, just the look. That front end is a little swollen looking IMO. I wouldnt talk about the wake or quality because I have never been in or behind one. I do however agree with you about the kids and their opinions.

Tackleberry,

Go back, take a deep breath and re-read (or perhaps read for the first time) what I posted.

It's called "hypothetically" speaking. I was wondering... if I had an actual poll showing 90%... would you still just call it an opinion?

Ah forget it... I what I mean to say is both you and the Tomcat ROCK! But... I guess thats just another opinion. Jeez

When I stated fully loaded means that we had all the stock ballast and the wake was awesome with NO added weight.

alan, YOU are a dealer... Of course it is the greatest boat in the HISTORY of wake board boats. I own an XSTAR because I can buy any boat that I want, not because I am obligated to ride behind one. Maybe after MB wins 4 riders choice "wakeboard boat of the year awards" people will believe, but don't call the Xstar a train wreck.......You loooooose all credibility!

ok MB Sports...so the majority of people on here don't like the graphics or tower...change those...

And I think that's cool that those forks keep water from coming over the bow. Now how about they add some storage compartments in those huge things? That would be cool to throw a shirt in there or sun-block.

I'm with entrust, they need to try a 2 color combo, tone it down just a tad. I think it would look even better yet.

nice boat dave.

Remember everyone there is quality and quantity. Just because you build a lot or sell a lot of units doesn't always mean it's the best
