When you cut out, flatten the board and ride with the boat before you cut back in. Don't cut out and cut right back in. Make sure you have some hang out time in between cutting out and cutting in.

Cut out and stop for a second. Then start Your cut slowly and progressively cut harder as You approach the wake.

It sounds like You are clearing the wake with speed and not line tension.

And yes You should buy a proper rope and handle.

Non- stretch rope will make a big difference.

"cut hard away from the wake then cut back really hard"

Sounds like bad technique.

Anytime you cut hard enough increase your board board speed past that of the boat, and then back off, you create slack. If you want the rope tight, use a progressive edge and sustain a hard cut up the wake. If you want a softer line, come in faster and lighten up a little before you pop.

Amen....a common problem and a tough habit to break.

chachi, i was kind of a disbeliever in non-stretch rope and i had always just used my ski rope until i actually went out and tried a non stretch rope and lemme tell ya, it makes a HELL of a difference, it's like night and day, and i don't feel like i'm exaggerating, but also, you have to have your progressive edge down number one, before you even try any trick. it's the very first step of becoming a "wakeboarder"
