I was looking at fishing boats with one of my coworkers who fishes, we went to look at Stratos boats and they have a model with a tower. was like wtf mate.

if you're a sidearm style bass caster, you definitely don't want the optional tower

We see alot of Jet's with towers on them in Oregon. Never saw anyone riding behind one though.

Outlaw Eagle Manufacturing, Gator Boats and Northwest Jest Boats all build killer jet boats. Aluminium hulls are freakin' great in a stream. There are couple of guys running around my area, Phoenix, AZ and Havasu with Aluminium jet boat hulls that run in upper 90's and low 100's. One of them even has a ballast system and tower.

Also check out Maha's wakeboat! No tower pics yet, but it's pretty crazy looking without the tower. Huge ballast system too.

If I understand it correctly, the ballast on the boat above is provided by water in the protrusions on either side of the motor. It doesn't look like they ride in the water when it is empty. The full tanks would make the boat sit down in the water, and the tanks become part of the hull so to speak as the boat sinks down in the water, thus making the wake wider. Seems like a good idea as the boat would be more nimble and efficient and faster when the tanks are empty. There is still the issue of no interior room and the fact that it is an I/O that would have to be dealt with before it gains any wakeboard credibiility.

I have seen the wake that boat makes at Havasu and let me tell you it's freakin' huge! The hull is a really deep V and when the ballast is full the ballast sponsons don't really do that much to the wake, it's the deep V that really slices the water. Maha makes slalom skis and is just fooling around with the above boat. He doesn't give a hoot about space since it's usually just him, the boarder and sometimes an observer, it's for skiing/boarding and nothing else. They have a couple other great big boats to party and store the ice chest on. The boat was made with salvage parts BTW.

I am glad that my speculation as to how it functions were on the right track. I think it is really a cool idea, I don't care much for the looks of it, but for the most part when it comes to boats, I am pretty utilitarian as I care more about function than looks (however, this would take a little getting used to). Have you talked to the guy? I wonder how much one of those goes for.

I have seen another article on the Maha boat. I understood that it was designed for pulling a slalom skier in long-distance endurance slalom races. Maha makes the premeir longboard skis for this event - over $1000 for a wood slalom ski.

Seems to be a pretty obscure hardcore sport with speeds up to 100mph.

I have talked to Bob at Maha several times both on the phone and in person. The boat only does about 65-70 on a good day. The boat was not designed for endurance racing since it won't go fast enough. Bob uses a Sanger or a Schiada for racing although I don't think he races anymore. I have two of his longboards. Nothing is better to ride in rough water with. I have ridden a Maha longboard from Keithsburg, IL all the way to Nauvoo,IL on the mighty Mississippi which is over 50 miles. We did stop at all the locks though.

It's actually a pretty big sport. My father-in-law was a national champion back in the day. LK Mead held the World Championships a couple years back. Yep Worlds. Aussies are big into it. And the Catalina Ski Race is HUGE. I tried to ski it a couple times. Trained by skiing @ Havasu from the north to the south twice and to catalina and back. Both times I was ready but the boat broke before the race. I'd love to do it but not living in So Cal anymore makes it difficult. I have an old Maha racer with a graphite bottom. Cost me $800 used 20 years ago. But I've been clocked at 92 and hit 70 on the way to catalina while training. Speed skiing is fun. Used to love racing boats on Mohave. The look you get when you pass them @ 65 is hillarious.

That boat would have a hard time competing in the distance races. Probably more for shorter circle races. All the top long distance boats are over 30ft now and hit 100mph. He says it goes 65 so it'd be tough to compete with those guys.

I should have done my homework - I didn't see the part about this being their "board boat" - just associated Maha w/ endurance racing.

There was a pontoon with a V8 at the Cincy Boat show, that advertised 60+ MPH. It looked pretty bad with the big chrome pipes sticking out of the back and all.

We have several megatoons and playcrafts running around Arizona. All I can say is that I can't think of a better way to take 25 friends around the lake at 75 mph.

I know a guy here in Tempe who has the Megatoon in the video, he paid $120K new. I have seen them go for $54K two years old though. They suck through the gas like no tomorrow!

Ok, so Im confused to our "official stance" here. Are we bashing these guys cause they cant afford a 50k$ wakeboat, or cause they are wakeboarding? guess its over my head.

Check this beauty out at 23'. I've often wondered what those long inboard center console fishing boats would be like for wakeboarding. You could line the perimeter with built in benches and cushions and spray down all the spilled beer when you're done with your session. Could make a great party/wake boat.

And I'm with Loki on the bashing. We have kids on my lake who made a pole for their aluminum boat with a 9.9hp engine and they have a blast. Granted, they all way in the 50-80lb. range, but it gets them out without their parents for wakeboarding and wakeskating. If it gets you on the water and puts a smile on your face you're livin'.

The Fish Nautique is cool and I would be willing to bet it would put out quite a nice wake. And you wouldn't have to worry about taking water over the bow when it is sacked out.

I don't think it's bashing just enjoying and discussing diversity.

I'm not bashing either, I especially like the Rover pulling the boarder, as I drive around South Florida and see all of the canals along side the road I think what a waste. For what it's worth, I don't have a 50K wakeboat, mine was barely 5K.

My all time favorite boat!

What we need is a hydroplane with a tower.

I want one of those zero-radius mowers; my neighbor has one and it cuts his mowing time in half. I wouldn't need the board racks, but the light bar would let me mow at night - a big plus in Texas.

The ones I've seen for under $3K are Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, and Ariens. Anybody got any feedback? I don't need a high-end commercial machine. This is not really that OT, because yard work takes away from time on the lake.

I don't think most people know why it's there and only get it cause they thinkk it's the cool thing to have.

I have heard that its to pull more skiers, and hang more fishing line. People around here think they are dumb. "Whats all that scaffling for?"

I had a guy ask me once if "those things on the side are for holding multiple skiers at the same time." He was refering to the board racks.

I had someone, seriously, ask if it was a roll cage.

Let's put a tower on this and start a new sport. SPEED WAKEBOARDING The v-bottoms make a really big wake at slower speeds.
