Hey guys i want to re-prop my 08 vlx because when i load the ballast i cant get out of the hole with my wedge deployed . Now i got the 14.5 x 14.25 High Altitude prop from Malibu and i want to know which Acme prop to get. The guy at acme told me the 1617 which is 14 x 13.75 and 0.075 cup would be the best and only option for me ...... Whats do you guys think and if it was you which one you guys would put. I need to stay with acme because the dealer pay's it and they are with Acme, also i got the Moonsoon engine. thanks a lot

I would listen to the folks at Acme, but most Monsoon owners run the Acme 1235. I don't know about at altitude though.

if i look to acme the 1235 is the same diameter and pitch as the High ALtitude prop but i dont know for the cup !? and i dont get on plane with that when the wedge is deployed ...

Yeah, I don't know what to say because the Acme 1235 works wonders down here in the flatness of Texas! I'll let the high altitude folks pitch in.

A Crewmemeber routinely hits lakes between 5-6k and uses the OJ OJ 468 (14.25 X 14 4-BLADE .110 CUP) just for reference. His is an '06 VLX w/ the wedge and ~400lbs. of extra weight beyond the stock 1,250lbs. This prop has great low end pull and doesn't hit the rev limiter. The 1617 maybe a bit to low, while it'll have a great hole shot but at wakeboard speeds it'll be pulling huge RPM's.

Can't help you on prop as I have an OJ XMP Edge, but I know calling the people at OJ or Acme is usually the best bet. If you are running wedge and a lot of extra weight, make sure some of that extra weight is up front, you may simply have too much weight in the rear if you can't get on plane, or it may be altitude, or a combination of the two. I've been in boats before where we had so much weight in them we couldn't get on plane. In a couple of those cases, too much weight was behind the windshield and we literally had to make everyone sit up front and get people to run to the bow to get the boat on plane. Remember, the wedge is equivilant to 1200 lbs, roughly 35-40% of your weight should be up front.

I've heard the 1237 is the new good one. We ran it at Spring Ride and it worked great. The boat was was a slammed and wedged LSV with a monsoon, the lake was at 3500 feet and it did great with the 1237.

Wakeaddict, I'd probably suggest the 1235 for Acme. Unless you are very high altitude (7-10k) and only run for short distances for your riding spot anything in the 13.50 diameter range will pull huge RPM's. Will they exchange it for another after you try it?

no they wont exchange it. and like i said earlier i already have the high altitude prop from malibu which seems to be the same specs as the 1235 from acme and it dont work well for me now .....

1235 is the high alttitude prop for your boat the 1617 sounds like the way to go.

Then you have nothing left to loose to try it I guess, since Acme doesn't have anything in between the 1617 and the 1235 like OJ does.

you guyz really talk like the 1235 is THE prop for my boat its good i just dont understand why i dont get good results out of it and my boat is in perfect condition. Seems like the 1617 is the one to trust now

You do realize that when you slam your boat with weight and use the wedge it won't have the hole shot that you do without weight? I'm kidding (just a little). I ran the ACME 1235 (Malibu High altitude prop) for 2 years on my vlx and it worked great. I had no problem getting on plane to wakeboarding speeds with full MLS+Wedge+10 peeps in the boat. That's alot of weight, but I am basically at sea level. Maybe you want to talk to ACME about changing the cup on your current prop before you drop $600 on a new one.

What engine do you have? My friend uses the 1235 and he has 4k in ballast with the monsoon and 4-6 people and it planes out just fine. (Message edited by eyekahn on May 21, 2009)

Bryan, OJ doesn't have a prop w/ the same dimensions as Acme, but the #475 (14.25 X 14.5 .090 CUP) is probably going to be the best match up. This prop is good for adding weight but also for those that need to search for water. I prefer the lower OJ #468 (14.25 X 14 LC 1 1/8" .110 CUP) as I don't care if I go over 30-35mph. If you’re cruising around the delta looking for water/restaurants etc. the #475 would probably fit the bill.

I think the big question is how is your boat weighted? The 1235 made a world of difference for me coming from the stock prop. I feel like I can run 5K+ in ballast and plane out alright. That bein said, I had my boat far too back heavy once, and with not that much weight it took forever to plane out. I think telling us how you weight your boat will help.

ok guys for my boat i dont have any poblem to run 3500lbs in ballast as soon as i put my wedge in the water i can get out of the hole at all even if we are 2 in the boat, with or without someone at the end of the rope....... thats pretty bad for surfing .....
