2005 Centurion Questions

I have an 05 Centurion and have a couple questions for you guys/girls.....

Wakeplate up, down, straight out? Where would you recommend it to be? Its manual so I can't adjust as I go so I'm hoping someone can save me some trouble.

Also, I have the dealer installed Ballasts, Center, Starboard and Port. The Starboard side won't fill. The other two are fine. Any Ideas on what could be wrong?

Lastly, When I throttle in reverse and then kick it into Neutral the motor dies. I only have MAYBE 3 hours on the motor. Will this work its way out or is there an issue with the idle? Its the 330 hp Black Scorpion Motor.

I would run the wakeplate a little up from level. You may have to play with it to get the wake like you want it. You may need to prime the ballast pump by backing up hard while you have it on fill. If it has never been filled you need to do that. As far as the engine dying I would have the dealer check that. It should not die.

I have an 05 Centurion, so I assume the ballast pumps are the same. The mayfair cartridge. Could be something in the pump, they are easy to inspect, pull the black tab on the side and twist the top. Verify the pump is running by turning it on when all is quiet and you can get in the rear compartment.

Wakeplate - on the manual plate my understanding is to have it up as far as it will go. If you have problems with the boat porposing (bouncing) at high speeds move it down a little.

The idle/motor dieing problem sounds like something the dealer should check / adjust. I've never had that happen.

Thanks guys. I will try all of those this weekend regarding the pump and wakeplate. I can manage for the next couple weekends regarding the motor but I will mention the computer to Mercury when I hit my 20 hr inspection. Thanks Lance.

Have owned 3 Centurions.....

Wakeplate all the way up for sure.....Also are you filling the ballast with boat off? Being that the pumps are by the exhaust ports it def helps to have boat off.

With the plate all the way up like that you probably will get porpusing at the high speeds, but that is the trade off for the best wake IMO.

As to the motor can't help you there

I havn't tried filling them with the boat off. I will try that this weekend.

I tried to fill them up last weekend and again, I couldn't fill the ballasts up. I got two full but couldn't get the third full. I gave up on it, then one time when emptying I noticed all three vents purging but one didn't have much in it. Any more ideas? I'm not sure what the exhaust ports would have to do with the pumps but could you enlighten me Kris? I'm new(er) to boating.

No problem Sean........ It's a pretty common mistake by most new owners on the Centurions because of this setup.

The ports fo the intake on your pumps are located right above your exhaust ports on the transom. (the one with silver screen is this port) When the boat is idleing or moving it can create an air pcket back there in which the pump can't get primed to take in the water. So make sure your sitting still and engine is off. I'm on my third Centurion with these pumps and sometimes they fill while running and other times they don't....so just relied on the turning the motor off way to be sure to get an even fill every time. The pumps won't take much battery draw so don't worry about draining the battery. It's minimal at best.

If there is one thing that kills me about the Centurions it's this ballast intake sytem. Really wish they would put the ports out the bottom so I could fill while in motion. It would be nice to fill otw to my riding sopt as I have to idle there for about 10min and then sit there for 5 filling, but hey price you have to pay for my favorite wake :-)

Dang reread that link looks like the have added the thru hull fittings instead of the transom...........RUT ROH maybe an 06 is in store

My 2006 Enzo has the ballast intake on the bottom of the boat so you can fill while moving. Looks like they moved to a larger pump too.

ah, I'll try the "no motor" fill up. I just got the stereo so just sitting there won't be soo bad.
