need peoples opinion on which motor i would be happy with the 325 or 340

350 HP MCX...Now that is one great motor...

if you can justify the extra $1,000...go with the 340. However, I've been told that the right prop can make up all the difference between the 325 & 340...i'd still recommend the 340 though b/c of the size of the boat.

well maybe not 1k for the 340.
2500 gets you 325,wakeplate,pp.
to get the 340 you pay 2595. , plus 895.for plate then 1195. for pp. so the 340 really costs you 2090. more

i have a xlv with a 325 and it's fine, even with 2000# in the boat. it's not a speed boat or anything but it does the job.

there is no way you will notice 15hp with something that big with that much weight, a prop will do more and be a lot cheaper

I agree with entrust my 04 XLV I had had the 325 and it was fine...I had the sacs filled with 6-7 people in the boat never had a problem...If money were not an option sure just for the placebo effect lol

Actually Dan and Entrust. The 2004 Moomba XLV upgraded motor was a 340HP motor . I looked in the owners amanual and the sales brochure from that year and the XLV had a base motor of 310hp with the TBI Motor, and the EFI motor was the 340hp. They didnt make the 325hp in 2004. At least that what it says in the sales brochures and the Owners manual. I will cut and paste when I pull it up on the website.

So I was happy to hear about this when I looked it up.

By the way Dan, The boat runs great ( had to rebuild the Starter but all else works great) and my family loves it.

I hope all is working out for you and have fun on your trip if you guyswork out all the details.

Sorry I made a small mistake. The Indmar Assault TBI is a 320hp not a 310hp.
But the Indmar Assault MPI is a 340hp. ( which is what is in my boat)
There was no 325HP motor offered that year.

So you have a 05 xlv with a 325 engine , and see no problem with pulling , i dont care about top speed, just that it has the right power to pull with people in the boat and some added weght. i would also like to put a stop on the throttle so it wont go to wot, to keep my stupid drunk friends from burning gas.

Sorry to hijack your thread there for a second.

Anyway I will give you my take.

I had a Supra SSV with a 320hp motor before I got the 2004Moomba XLV with the 340hp motor.
You can definately feel a difference in the power of the boat. Granted your top speed will be the same ( prop and Transmission ratio) but out of the hole is amazing and mine planes out effortlessly with 2000lbs of ballast and a few people.
The 320 Hp motor in my SSV was great as well. It had no problem Planeing out or getting anyone out of the hole, even with 1500lbs of ballast.

I think you will be happy either way you go. Its all up to what your wallet can afford.

i need a new prop on my xlv, i had about 2500# of ballast and 8 people on the boat today, so like almost 4000# it took a while to plane, once it was on plane it was fine

I have a 2004 XLV and opted for the 340hp. I wouldn't run without it! But then again, I'm at 5,280ft. above sea level. At sea level I can see the 325 doing the job just fine. But don't get the 310 carb! Definitely at least get the fuel injected. Carbs are nothing but a hassle and a problem.

I have not had one problem with my 2003 Outback with the carb'ed 310 HP engine. Zilch, nada.

But, I do take it to the dealer once a year for him to tweak and do whatever he wants to keep it running in perfect condition.

Preventative maintenance is the key to keep any engine configuration in top shape.

do you really need 2500 of ballast in the beveryone that i ride with are no expert rider.

no we didnt need 4000# in the boat but man was the wake huge! a little too big!

I've found that the prop makes a bigger difference than 15hp... I have a 315hp engine in my Centurion Avalanche (22', dry weight of 3300lbs), ride with 2500lb ballast, and have the perfect prop (3 blade) - it pops out of the water with ease (no problem planing whatsoever), tops out at 53, and is more efficient than the larger motor.

The one plus to the 340 will be in resale value... although, you might not see all of that 2100 back when you sell.

If your gonna do a larger stereo and lights go with the 340. It has a 90amp alternator vs 70amp.

its something you cant change afterwards and if you plan on loading it down with some lbs get the big boy 340

i hope you aren't trying to suggest that hes getting a bad deal on the xlv cause you got a 210 for about that price? he's getting a lot more boat for the price. not saying anything bad about the 210 but it's just a different comparasion.
