Need Help! What do you think?

Hey guys, me and a couple of buddies are wanting to go in on a wakeboard boat. We've been looking some and are trying to stay around the $30,000 range. I found this one on boattrader that seems like a pretty sweet boat. I think the price is a little high for the year model but it sounds like he would back off the price some. I just wanted to know how the boat was and how the wake was? Seems like it would be pretty good with the perfect pass, 1,000 pound ballast, and the wedge... If anyone has any info it would be very helpful. Thanks.

Well to be honest we aren't all going in to buy the boat together. One of my friends who is doing very well financially said he was going to buy a boat for us to wakeboard behind. Me and the other guy just said we would be more than happy to pay for the gas and such when he took us out. So basically the boat will be bought by one individual and we will just be reaping the benefits while forking out a little cash for the essentials. I don't think we should run into many issues that way... Anyways, he just told us to keep an eye out for some boats and I ran across this one. I was thinking if we could get it for 25K then it might be a pretty sweet deal? I'm mostly concerned with the overall quality of the boat and the wake it puts out.

Well in that case that is a very good situation for you then.

As far as the boat goes I'd stay away form an XTI, look for a wakesetter series. You'll be much more pleased with the wake it puts out. Stick with a Vdrive for a wakeboard boat. You should be able to find some older wakesetters in that price range.

So clearly I'm not very educated as far as wakeboarding boats go, but is the XTI not part of the Wakesetter series? It is labeled as a "Wakesetter XTI" but I thought of the wakesetters to be like the VLX's and LSV's? When I saw the XTI though I thought maybe that was just one I didn't know of. Like I said, I'm pretty new to market as far as wake boats go.

My bad my post was pretty confusing after I re-read it. I meant to say stay away from the direct drive XTI (with the engine in the center of the boat) and look for a Vdrive wakesetter with the engine in the rear. The XTI is the only wakesetter that is direct drive and they don't make it anymore for a reason.

Ahh I see. Yea I must admit I was slightly confused... This will be our first actual wakeboard boat. We currently board behind my dads 01 Sea Ray 230 BowRider. It actually puts out a surprisingly good wake. We were just looking to upgrade. Here's another boat I was looking at. Same list price and same year, plus it's a V-Drive. The only thing is that it doesn't say that it has perfect pass.

Looks like a nice boat, by the looks of the trailer it may have been a saltwater boat at sometime. Perfectpass can be added for about $1k.

The xti is a great crossover boat, except for surfing. I dont think they made a 22 foot xti, its either a 21 or 23. As far as the "wakesetter", it is more of a package on the xti. It basically means it comes with three ballast tanks and the wedge. If you like to ski occasionally, the wake is very nice for that. It throws a decent wakeboard wake but requires sacks on the ground and people walking over them if you want to add more weight.

This boat will pretty much be strictly for wakeboarding. We can ski behind my dad's sea ray. I like that second boat you listed Nu Bu. It's a long drive but may be something to look into. So I guess I'm looking for an early-mid 2000's model V-Drive with perfect pass and built in ballast for around $30,000.

I listed that second boat just as an example, it's been probably use strictly in salt water and looks pretty hammered to me. Maybe it would clean up. You'd have to see if it had closed water cooling or not, if it didn't I would stay away from it.

Yea... I think I want to stay away from salt water boats, period.
