BH prices:

Body + Lens: $1996 (sometimes less)

Lens $580
Grip $170
Card $180

All items the same as you describe and US version.

B&H is reputable and very helpful.

They are currently out of stock on the body/lens kit you referenced, but you could probably do better for a lense for the ~$500 they are asking for it . . .

20D is sweet by the way.

As is the rest of your potential set-up, just don't know enough about that lense.

I have the 28-135 (3.5-5.6) IS and question the utility of the IS below ~80mm. In retrospect I would have waited a little longer and gotten the 24-70 2.8L for a little more than twice as much for about four times the lense!!

Those prices are all right in there. If you want the 17-85 then it probably be smarter to buy the body and lens separately. The 20 D alone can be had for under $1400 and the 17-85 for under $600. In my experience 24 or 28mm is not wide enough on a 1.6X crop body. And I found the image quality of the 17-85 to be as good as the 17-40 L and 24-70 f2.8L (yes I own all 3 of those lenses and did comparisons). Buy the 24-70 if you need a fast lens but it's not as good as the 17-85 as a street zoom on the 20D. I haven't bought the grip yet as one of the things I like about the 20D is it's size, if I want to shoot with a bigger body I'll get out the 1D. Consider buying 2 1gig Ultras vs the 2 gig as they have really dropped in price. Unless you're shooting RAW + large/fine JPEG you can get plenty of shots on a 1 gig card. The 20D is a fantastic camera, you will love it!

Thanks for all the input guys. It's being over nighted and I'll have it tomorrow. I'm headed to Miami for work and will be unable to shoot anything with it until I return next weekend. I'll post some shots when I can.

I've got a Digital Rebel, 17-40L, 50mm MKII, and 70-200 2.8L, and a 550EX. Its a pretty solid setup, I just wish I had a 20D for a faster motor drive. Get a polarizer for your 70-200, it will definately be the lens you use the most, and polarization will help prevent washed out colors from water reflection and sun glare.

Aaron,

Sell the Rebel and the 550 ex, that will get you into a used 20D. The 580EX is so much better you ought to get out of that flash before it drops way down in value. Unless you're doing a lot of high powered fill flash the built in flash on the 20D works pretty well.

Thanks for all the info on this camera. I have a 20D on the way and I am looking for a good lens for shooting riding shots. What do you think is the best lens for the money? I don't want to spend $1000 for a lens right now. Would you take a chance on a used lens off ebay?

without spending the extra $$ for a 70-200 2.8 L

You're best bet is a 70-200 f4 L

best wakeboard lens you can buy in that price range, not as nice as a 2.8 but very solid

I've had both and other than not being good for low light situations, you cant go wrong with the f4
