Good board for 215#-235# guys?

I have one of the first Landlocks. It was fun for a while, but at 230 pounds, it's hard just to keep up. I was thinking of a new board this season. How's the Oogle? I want something easier for my weight, that I can also start doing some tricks on.

I tried to ride several boards but at 270 lbs nothing worked very well. I contacted several wakesurf board companies some would make me a custom board. The problem was they thought over 7'. Jeff Walker custom buit me a board at 6'2" that works well except that it is a little long as well. We are in the process of shaping a 5'2" board for next year. The difference between my board and stock boards is the width and thickness. You need the flotation to stay in the pocket well. I used my 6'2" with a seven year old boy on a small wake and at 340 lbs total weight was not a problem to ride without the rope. We big guys just sink small boards.

My brother in law use to have the same problem (~210lbs) but can now bust airs with ease on a 4'5" custom Walzer Board he just had made.

I run from 220 to 205. Last year I rode a Broadcast 5.6 without any trouble. I have a regular stance and ride on the port side. Because the prop rotation on my boat is left handed the wake favors regular stance riders on the port side.

One of my crew weighs in at abut 270 lbs, rides with a goofy stance on the starboard side. If he’s careful he can cruise, but the board clearly isn't big enough for him.

I’ve never ridden a surf style board with more flotation, but I imagine that helps too.

Your weight is somewhere in the middle of our weight and you’ve got a Moomba, so you also have LH rotation (I think) and so your wake should be better on the port side. We don’t know your stance, if you have regular stance and surf the better side of your boats wake you may have more options.

CASkimmer, Walzer? Are you talking about Sean Walzer? Back in the day he was quite the skimmer, but he must be an old man about your age now Like 30'ish? I heard a rumor that he was going to start manufacturing, does he have his plant up and running or do you just hav an in?

I rode my 6'8" Rip Curl (ocean board) yesterday - it is 20" wide and 2 3/8" thick. I actually really liked it better than the Landlock - it was much quicker / lighter and maneuverable. I was thinking that I'd like to cut the top down to about 6' or maybe even 5'5". I really like the way it floats me as well. I'm 200lbs.

Yeah that's the same Sean Walzer and all the rumors are true. His new shop is VERY CLOSE to being finished. He's still making skimboards but 75% of his manufacturing capabilties is being devoted to wakesurfers.

So, is this what you've been holding out on us about?! What can you tell us about the boards...in the other thread you mentioned the board was thicker than a traditional skimboard. One of my gripes about skimmers is the weight. Inasmuch as, you don't need the mass to THROW the board down a beach break, the traditional skimmers always seemed too heavy. Will these Walzer's be any lighter?

I can tell you that my 1 1/4" thick Kevlar Epoxy board is the same weight as a Phase 5 and we found a way to bring that weight down close to a pound more.

The folks at Inland Surfer sent me two boards, they've agreed to donate a few boards to contests for prizes and also one to use in some clinics we'll be doing this summer.

The red tide is a donation for a raffle, but I had to sneek a peek at it before shipping it out.

It's only about 5'6" long, but is quite wide at around 23" +/-. Several things interesting in the design.

The first is the nose rocker, only the last maybe six inches has any rocker, the majority of the board is as flat as a table top. Translates into quite a bit of surface area for you big guys, PLUS that short nose rocker will no doubt make the board fairly fast.

The board is maybe 1.75" thick, I couldn't find my calipers, so it's a rough measurement with a tape. The EVA foam has been inlaid into the deck, thereby minimizing the difference between the control surface and your feet. I know that it doesn't seem like much, but I can feel the difference when I load up a 1/4 thick piece of EVA foam. This dsign element gives the benefits of a board with a wax traction surface, without the mess!

The board was shipped with Future 3.25" Side Bites. The toe-in looks like it measures about 1/8 inch. I'd bet this board is very fast down the line...definately check into it for bigger folks.

My new boat will be ready in 3 weeks.
But I surfed the wake with Bob Jessen(owner of Calabria) yesterday and the wake is sick.
The new Pro V-2 is unbelievable. We loaded both tanks, and with just (2) people on the boat the goofy side was great. No other weights.
My legs still hurt.
You can in reality stay in the pocket of the wake for as long as your legs can take it.
They have added a bunch of new stuff on their boats, you should check them out on their site.

And the wake is sick also for wakeboarding. We rode all day with just the Pure Vert Ballast, and for my first session of the year - it tore me up. I'm on bed rest untill next Saturday when we ride again.

Any chance we can get you to donate a board to be raffled off at the 2nd Annual Supra/Moomba Owners Jamboree in Clermont, Fl on Aprill 22,2006.

I was just told yesterday by a Skiers Choice big wheel (who shall remain anonymous,unless he chimes in) about events at the jamboree..."Wakesurfing is good - Go for it Ed".

I'm sure everyone realizes that the Skiers Choice guys will take notice who is schmoozing their owners with donations.

I think this is a great opportunity for everyone involved with wakesurfing to establish a good rapport with Skiers Choice. This is the first event they (S.C.) will attend since publicly changing their views about wakesurfing.

Jeff and son will definetly be the ambassadors! I honestly feel that Jeff And James' wakesurfing demonstration will wow the S.C. folks into becoming future sponsors of the sport.

Jeff, I'd be honored to have you take my Red Tide for a spin.

I once had a 1960's rock guitarist play my Stratocaster. Couldn't belive it was the same guitar... I'll probably feel the same with you riding my board.

I think that we all like to give, in hopes of receiving in return. It's the basic tenant of dating, right? I believe it would bode WELL for the folks at SC, Inc. to follow thru with the momentum that is being created.

Wakesurfing is a fun and safe sport that the whole family can enjoy. Those of us past our 30's (with full wallets and family obligations) can shred a wave without fear of breaking a bone and being unable to go to work on Monday. All- the-while actually participating in a most enjoyable sport.

I believe all of us in the wakesurfing community appreciate being part of the Jamboree and look forward to continued and ongoing support from the shareholders and management of Skier's Choice, Inc.
