Dude, you are going to get hypothermia if you go in 40 degree water wearing a 3/2. What are you going to be doing in there, swimming?

What's more important is what type of weatsuit you should get. Wetsuits are made of different materials, are glued together differently etc. What this means is some are more flexible than others. The xcell wetsuits are as close to being suitless as possible, quicksilver and jetpilot also make really good suits. I'd go with a 4/3. for more info visit surfline.com

One word for ya, Drysuit. But then you are doing this for exercise, so either a nice wetsuit like Mike suggests or drop the $$$ for a heater.

For that water temp a 4/3 high quality suit is a must. I have a very high quality 3/2 and sometimes feel I'm pushing the limits in the 56 degree ocean water.

I'd recommend checking out a 4/3 O'Neill Psycho II.

If you are going to be swimming in 40 degree water, you should get a hood or even a hooded vest for under your suit.
