GPS speed control

I'm no rocket scientist... but isn't this a bad idea if you ride on rivers? What we care about is relative boat speed (i.e. boat vs. water, not boat vs. land). If the river is flowing at 5 mph, and you are driving up river, holding position, you land speed is 0 and your boat speed (pito tube or paddle wheel sensed) is 5 mph...

I guess we will all riding at 19 mph up river and 29 down... ?

I was thinking the same thing. I ride in a river as well and even with the paddle with speed control you can tell the difference up vs down stream. One of the guys on our river rides for cc, so I think he may have one her for a test run this fall, will have to see how it goes.

I think this will be a big pain in the a$$... I've bad things about the fly by wire and now this... I'm glad I am not in the market for a new boat!

Not to mention that if the military ever decides to turn "selective availability" back on it can think you are going 5 MPH when you are tied up to the dock......

What is "selective availability"?

Thanks. I scanned through both and I see that this has been beaten to death already...

Sounds like using it in current requires adjustment until the rider feels he is at the right speed. This is the part that I would not like. I don't want to think if I am the same speed as the last time I rode, etc. The whole point of PP is to get the same speed w/o thinking too hard...
