Over 3000 wakeboarders voted over the last 4 days and the results were a bit too close to call. The powers that be have reset the ballots and narrowed it down to the two following options. Please take a moment and vote again!

Hahn;

I say b is the most impressive. A is great but has been a similar cover in past issues.
Old    r_dub            06-29-2005, 9:58 AM Reply
Wow, I can’t believe this is even close. I mean, they are both cool covers, but haven’t we seen "A" a thousand times now? I mean, what makes it so special? Is it because there is a mountain in the background? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking it at all, it is a great picture. But, "B" is new, fresh, and innovative. And basically something we really haven’t seen before. I just don’t understand the resistance to progress, even though progression might mean your steal from other sports every now and then.

innovative? that's been around since the late 90's. how is that innovative?

personally, i like 'em both.

a = classic tail grab.
b = "extreme" shot.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       06-29-2005, 10:08 AM Reply
Print them both. Have an alternative cover. Collectors will probably buy they other copy anyways.
Old    r_dub            06-29-2005, 10:11 AM Reply
Sure people have been doing sliders since the 90's. But I think seeing a ledge like that, which has probably never been touched by a wakeboard, now I think that is pretty innovative.

Down with B.

J-Rod got it...Print both of them and I bet hardcore wakeboards get both copies, each one with a different cover and it might be a collecters item somewhere down the line.

At first glance, B look's like just another skateboard magazine.

VOTE FOR B NICK IS A BETTER RIDER ! BRIAN SUCKS ! HE IS A CRY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
B is a much harder trick!

Ohhhhh boy.....here we go.

Actually, I'm going to have to call PHOTOSHOP on B. Look at the slack in the rope!

Personally I don't care who is on the cover or how technical the trick is as long as it has style.

But really, back to the slack in the rope. He is going way faster than the pwc and he is probably still accelerating. I doubt he rode out clean before sinking and waiting for line tension to pull him back up. It's a cool stunt and dangerous no doubt, but A still has more style imo.

looking at it better...there is no PWC,the handle and the rope is there just for looks.IMO

Photoshop on B...Easy call!

jrod, not to disrespect your opinion, but i don't think isler's gotten this far in the industry by photoshopping pics.

i highly doubt it's 'shopped, but i do agree that he probably didn't ride it out.
Old     (solo)      Join Date: Oct 2001       06-29-2005, 11:04 AM Reply
J-Rod,

No photoshop, the ledge was pretty steep and the pwc wasn't quite moving fast enough at that moment. I agree that the slack in the rope hinders the picture a bit. I like both.

Chubby,

Both Nick and Brian are great riders and both work very hard representing our sport and this industry. Bashing someone on a message board is not only cowardly but immature. If you're so awesome I invite you to come out to my next photo shoot and we'll see what gets published.

Guys...I was totally kidding on the photoshop thing. (note the toolfan style inverted red triangle)

I would never seriously call PS on these guys.

My comment about my own perception of the concrete slider stunt not looking as clean is just my opinion.

I'm going to have to vote for A. At first glance of B I don't even see a rider all I see is a huge wall then the rider. Don't get me wrong in all it's a sick picture but to much like a skate mag. If I were staning in the store looking at these two covers and wanting to grab something about wakeboarding cover A makes more of a statement, classic and we've seen similar, but this jumps out and shows you wakeboarding. IMO

I have never claimed that i was any good you said this not me! ! And just how I achieved this “Brian is a baby” conclusion!
Well I was in town for work and went to the Fort Worth Tour Stop and as an outsider that looks at this sport. Not a PRO photogepher like yourself! Who has all the incite and the know, like your self! I watched Brian throw the handle down after he landed a trick! Like a 4 year old child!
I know they both rip but!
But with any thing in this world we all have opinions! Like you called me immature that is your opinion. Keep shooting and good luck!
!

Anyone who is VERY passionate about a sport has over reacted at one time or another. Big deal!

Being as competitive as these guys are, maybe he wasn't happy with his pass. Does that make him a "Big Baby"? I think everyone on this message board, including you, have had a less than perfect day on the water. Does that make us all "Big Baby's"? To your average wakeboarder, watching professional athletes ride can be jaw dropping. Just because he landed a trick, maybe he missed the grab or it wasn't as clean as he normally throws it. Everyone can get frustrated it's human nature. Making a comment like that twice, without ever having a conversation with that individual just makes you look overly critical. To each is own. Thank you for the encouragement. Check out the August issue of WBM and read my article on Lake Havasu pg. 72. Enjoy!

I pick B. Although A shows one of my favorite grabs , it seems to be a bit played out in the mags lately. It's not every day you see a guy sliding down a huge piece of concrete.

Good point, Blabel. At least its not another nuclear grab (or nukular, as they say in Crawford).

What exactly is Brian doing in that picture, I know its a tailgrab, but im not sure if this makes sense, but is he doing it toeside or is he doing a HS backside 180 with a tailgrab. I don't know if thats actually possible.

Cover B for sure...

it's certainly possible. That would be my guess judging by the water coming off the board.

Alex, I have been working on a shifty tail grab for awhile now which is what I think he is doing. Since it puts you in such a weird, blind position, I can't imagine doing a 180 out of it. But if he did, I would be very, very impressed.

Here's a crappy pic of my version:

CHUBBY, before you go and open your ignorant mouth you might want to know that Brian broke a bone in his heal during that run, and that is probaly why he threw his rope down. You might also take notice that brian placed better then he ever has at a pro tour event that same weekend with a broken heel. he has also continued to ride the tour with this injury all year, which shoes heart, if not for anyother reason brian deserves the cover based souly on those facts.

also I would hate to see a over hyped dock start make the cover of WBM.

just my thoughts

ok, I was an ass, I apologize, I'm sorry.

I will still have to disagree with you though. I don't think anyone deserves more coverage than someone else just because they've sustained an injury. That idea is laughable.

Note: I couldn't identify either rider in either picture and I still pick B.

Who is the rider in B?

Oh, and I'm not defending Chubby.

Blabel: Have you tried taking that back to a late FS 180 into the flats? Makes it even more fun! Although, my shifty tail isn't near as poked and rotated as yours. If you haven't tried it you should give it a shot.

thanks Hahn.
Old     (teamvaldez)      Join Date: Apr 2003       06-30-2005, 2:58 PM Reply
Another factor in this whole situation is the rider. Nick Ennen is an awesome pro active wakeboarder who will take the time to communicate with kids and those who don't ride on their level. He represents what I want my kids to emulate and THAT is getting few and far between with non old schoolers. He is not one of those who shut themselves up in a cool room with the other "cool" guys. He will be driving the boat, gassing them up. wiping them down and interacting with the groms. He deserves a cover shot not only for the pic being so sic but for his attitude OFF the water. Good job Mike, keep up the great work.

Sponsors advertise in the magazine enabling them to distribute and keep the publication going. Without Ad's and money from Ad's the magazine wouldn't be able to keep publishing their product. Nice thought though.

I have to say, I do find the skate mag comment rather amusing...because it looks nothing like it. It would actually look much better if it were a skate cover (no bindings...gnarbuckets)(oh, and that's not to say that I don't respect the wake cover.) Snowboarding, yes, I could agree with that (case in point)...

Anyway, I'd like to give "big ups" to cover b.
Old     (salmon_tacos)      Join Date: Jan 2003       07-03-2005, 10:17 AM Reply
The scenery in Cover A goes MUCH better with the "Go West" title plus Cover B is not a good shot. I mean, the composition, lighting, etc. are all good but the slack rope and the fact that the rider looks like he's falling over kind of ruin it. They should have made him do it again...take 2! Oh, well. I guess cover B is more...OMG...eXtReME!!!
