I would love some valuable input on anyone who has a wakesetter 21 xti or anyone who has ridden behind one. I was wondering how the wake was with the wedge and about 500 lbs of lead? Im looking at getting an 03' at a great deal. Thanks

Jamie, you might find a quicker answer at malibuboatowners.com.

I ride behind a 23 foot xti The wake is great with some weight and no wedge. With the wedge it made the wake more vertical. We ended up taking it off and added more fat chicks.

Rich, why not add twice as many skinny chicks?

Boat only holds 13 people....we need the space for beer.

Fat chicks will drink all your beer. Get 20 skinny chicks and let them split a wine cooler.

wakesetter 21xti is the same hull as the vlx and the direct drive wakesetter (sv23) If you get a 21xti w/o the wakestter package it will be a sv23 diamond hull designed for better ski wake this is the same hull as the sunscape 21

Our XTI is a Sunsetter. It as the same hull as wakesetter but doesn't come with wedge foil or MLS. We used our cheap deal finding ability to get a used wedge for $100 and we will use a fat sac and hardwire a pump. We saved 200 on installing our Swoop tower ourself.

All XTI's have the diamond hull which is different than the wakesetter's non-diamond hull.

according to their web site the regular xti (in the family class) has the diamond, but the wakesetter series xti has the non diamond

Steve, I was a bit off the Sunsetter 21 XTi is on the SV23 Diamond, Wakesetter 21 XTi is on the SV23 and both of the 23 XTis are on the V25.

I'm not very familiar with Malibu boats. What exactly is the difference between a diamond hull and a non-diamond hull? Are the any of the differences readily apparent when looking at a boat?

From this discussion, it appears that non-diamond hulls are better for boarding. Is that correct?

the non diamond are better for boarding and the diamond are better for skiing. The diamond have lifting chines that raise the hull out of the water more easily. Both hulls are very good for both sports just a little more tuned for a one or the other.

Jeff, take a look this thread for a detailed description of the differences between the two hulls.

It's possible to tell which hull it is just by feeling the chines and looking down the hull from the transom, but it's much easier if you have the two hulls side-by-side to compare.

The chine isn't even touching the water when the boat is running. You may mean be speaking of the strakes on the hull that are different.
What is so different from looking at the hull from the transom??

The section where the side of the boat meets the hull is defined as the chine. It is one of the most significant areas for ski boat hulls, and can play a huge roll in how the boat handles and performs. It is most definitely in the water when the boat is running, and that is where Malibu differentiated the SV23 Diamond hull from the standard SV23 hull.

AFAIK, the strakes are identical on both hulls. When you look down the chine of the boat from the transom, you can see the increased downward turn of the SV23 Diamond hull. You can also feel the increased angle, and sharpness of the chine if you run your hand along that area.
