I just bought a new 7" variable speed polisher and would like to get started on my boat. I have a question about what type of pads to you use. The products I bought are the Meguiars 49 Oxidation remover and 45 Marine Polish and I also have their flagship wax. Through my searches I see people are either using a wool or foam pad and wiping off with a Terry cloth. Would this be right? Any tips/tricks would be much appreciated!

Cheers

I use the foam pads with the backing plate listed below. Great performance, easy to change and easy to clean. I just buffed my whole boat using the Meguiars products last weekend.

You want to start with the least aggressive method first, which would be the 49 oxidation and a foam pad. If that doesn't work to your liking move to a wool pad and the 49. Depending on how bad the oxidation is that might not even work and you may need a better compound with a wool pad or even a wetsand.

For the polish use a foam pad.

I'm no detailer but have wetsanded, buffed and polished my boat before.

Lake country pads. CCS model for the foam. I have had people offer me cash to do their boats - so I think i am doing something right.

Compound with a yellow foam or an untwisted white wool (I prefer wool)

Polish with an orange foam

Wax with red foam

If the oxidation is heavy you will need a wool pad..the foam will work but near as good on the heavy stuff.
Polish with foam
I wax by hand
