ACME 912 for SN 2001

Anybody tried or using this prop?!?! Called to order the 542 today and the guy talked me into this one. Says its an upgrade from the 542. My boats strictly for wakeboarding and im gonna be running just shy of 2k pounds so he said I wouldnt be disappointed with this thing. Just was curious if anyone had any experience with it. THANKS!

whats the pitch? 11, 10.5? im sure its good. probably comes out of the hole like crazy. i ran 1500 in mine with the 542 and never had any trouble in fact a guy wanted to barefoot with all the weight in the boat no problem. but an extra 500+ the pitch drop couldnt hurt. just watch your rpm at top speed unweighted

10.5 is the pitch. What kind of RPM's should i watch out for. engine has 500 hours on it. ill be able to do 30 no sweat right?!

Stay below 4,500 rpms. The 912 is a popular choice for slammed 2001's. Good choice.

You will still be able to do 40ish. Yeah PCM recommends max rpm of 4400.

that will be no sweat! I live on a pretty small lake so I never have to do 40's

Right on dude!!! Youll be able to slam the CRAP out of that Supra!!! Those things hold a ton of weight with stock props....

interesting, I hadnt heard about that one yet. Did you talk to acme? I have the 542 as does Fro Z I believe and we both run the same weight usually (2000k +or-). I got my prop 2 seasons ago and acme recommended the 542 for that weight. Let me know what you new top end is. With the 542 my top end is 43 at 4000 rpms (not that I do it much). When cruising with out weight it really like around 32-34.

Newer prop. Came out last summer. Sold a lot of them and never a complaint.

Kevin, 4000 is really on the low side, you should be seeing around 4500-5000 with that prop and a healthy engine.

yeah its tuned up, I guess what I am saying is I can push it to 4500 to 5k but if you read above its not a good thing to do, and the gain is minimal in speed, I think I have seen 45 once with the 542. With the stock prop it would do 45 all the time.

So what I was saying is pretty much that my top end speed is 43, I can get the tach to go higher but I dont just because its not worth the wear and tear. That is also on a full tank of gas and 150 pounds up front. Ive never run full speed with 2000k in ballast, that just would be dumb

I read above and you stated your top end was 42 at 4000. 351W engines are rated at 4500-4800.

That information kind of information is pretty much useless for anyone umless you provide more complete info on your real wot/top end and what rpms you're running at riding speed.

I know some others will agree that's the proper way to calculate the right prop.

ACME told me never to run it about 4500 as a general rule of thumb and told me to check the manual to see for sure what my motor states.

I have been told the same thing as wakemikey. Maybe you wont consider this useless info: 2000k pounds of ballast, 3200 rpms at 24.5 mph with a 75 ft line legnth. Recently rebuilt carb, transmission and tuning.

As for WOT, again thats just useless wear and tear and I have tried it more than once and the difference in speed with the 542 at anything over 4k rpms is of about 1mph (2 under right conditions). That is the point I was trying to make. The 542 is pitched purely to turn your boat into a tug boat not a race horse. I am curious about the characteristics of the 912 because there has been a lot of discussion on the topic on various sites as to what prop is best for the 2001. I know I have read pages where some guys have tried several props and have gone to certain ones for specific reasons.

There is no perfect prop. Every prop is a set of specifications with different effects. You have several different approaches to performance including pitch, diameter, cup, rake, number of blades, blade material, finish, balance, etc. Each driver has a different set of expectations, so for the same boat, two drivers may prefer different props. I have three props for my boat and will switch as necessary for show skiing (wakesurf-like), wakeboard, and barefooting. There is not one prop that does it all.

When it comes down to it whats the right prop for you!?!?! from what I understand stock is a good all around prop for ski, surf, lighter weight wakeboarding, and whatever else, the 542 is meant for guys running a good amount of weight who still want the option of some top end to ski and barefoot and the 912 is basically just for wakeboarding. Different people different props! It just comes down to whats right for you!

Kevin my boat is a tad smaller than yours but I get 2600rpms at 22.5mph 1200bs with the 542.
Above 2600 rpms I gain a mph for every 100rpms.
I like it pulling so much better at 2700-2800rpms but speeds goes way up for me.

2600rpms for 1200 pounds at 22.5 is right on target. When I dont run 2k I usually run around 1200 and 22.5 mph is my speed too! Definately a fun wake even with just 1200 pounds. I rode that exact set up for about 2 years. The wake is a little steeper and slightly narrower isnt it on the original ski's (pre 1982)?

Yes it is, it's a fun and pretty decent wake, but not as easy to ride on as the newer boats.

I like to put more weight up front so it dosnt get too steep.

Jesse, I called Acme the other day as well and I can't decide which one to go with. They also suggested the 1608, which has a slightly different cup than the 542. If you could let me know how you like the 912 that would be awesome. I'm ordering something soon, just not sure which one yet.

Got to test the prop this past Saturday. The 912 is off the chain!!! Ive never been in a SN2001 with the 542 but I have been in a stock prop and my gosh!!!!!! I have nothing bad to say about it. My boat honestly felt like it had an extra 100 horses. Held speed awesome!!!!! I gotta say if your gonna be doing a lot of riding with weight in your boat and can handle a top speed of about 38 or so the 912 is definately for you!!!!! Like the only way to describe it is gratuitous amounts of POWER!!!! felt stronger than my buddys X-Star diggin out of the hole!!!! Let me know if ya got any more questions!

Sweet man, I'm thinkin about goin with that one, but my only worry is about RPM's. If you hit WOT what are turning? I don't want to grenade my motor and I wouldn't really be worried, but I'm not the only one that's gonna be driving the boat. Glad you like it though!

Yeah man I guess my lake is pretty small so I dont ever have to go wide open and its pretty much just unecessary anyways, no sense in putting that strain on the engine, factory recommends to never go above 4500rpm even with stock prop its printed on the valve cover spotter side. so yeah.... From what I hear the 542 is pretty rad though! Sounds like that might be the prop for you due to the fact others will be driving and stuff. Either way you wont be dissappointed! youll be power pulling, power boarding, power turning, power skiing, power tubing... JUST POWER ALL THE TIME!!!!! ;)

what speed do you ride at and how many rpms?

I just got the 542 last year and love it. We run about 1600+ lbs and usually 4-5 people and the whole shot is great.

I figured there was a chance my boat might still be used for a little bit of slalom skiing and barefooting so I didn't go for the 912.
