does waxing your board improve its ride quality?

Nope. No waxing needed for wakeboards.

Uh....waxing the bottom of the board would make it drag. Not a good idea. Surfers wax the top of the board so they don't slip off. No wax on the bottom. Doesn't make sense when you have bindings.

Now just go ride.

Although I agree no need to wax, but I think you guys are thinking surf wax. My guess Brett was referring to snowboard wax. I could be wrong thou.

I use Turtle wax on my Ibex because it wasnt shiny enough. But yeah, dont use surf wax or snowboard wax.

The purpose of snowboard wax isn't to make the board slippery but create friction. Basically what happens is as the snowboard rides over the snow the wax create friction causing the snow to "melt" a little bit giving the board the freedom to move. Since water is already liquid... There is no need for it. It would in fact create drag in this instance.

what about the wax they use on race boat hulls? ur not really riding fast enough to notice any dif though i bet

theoretically teflon wax probably would make a difference, but probably not big enough to tell. Maybe on some scientific scale you could see a slight difference. I know people who race sailboats wax boats with teflon wax, makes for a slick and smooth/protected hull.

i recent waxed the bottom of my boat with cleaner wax because it had a lot of water spots on it...it had no positive or negative effect...other than being cleaner. i would think it should make it a tiny bit faster since the wax smoothes out the surface like it would on a car or boat hull. if you wax it just use car wax.

unless your talking about very thin spray on wax, then this thread has got to be a joke lol

I always wax the top of my boards. It drains most of the water spots off and they are always sitting in the sun so It helps there too. Jet

ya when you wax a snowboard you scrape all of it off anyway. most people think that the wax is what makes you go fast on a snowboard, but its actually the p-tex. the more of the wax you can scrape off of your snowboard after you wax it, the faster your gonna go.
and as far as waxing a wakeboard goes, thats probably one of the goofyest things ive ever heard.

I'm shocked that some of you put so much time into keeping boards clean, much less waxed? Its a wakeboard... who cares.

I care..he cares..alot of us care. No you don't have to wax your board dork! But some of us have love and passion for wakeboarding, riding and your board. If we have to explain to you (obviously) you won't understand. I only car wax the top for water stains and sun exposure..It only makes sense. I take care of my sh*t. I have a 89' Supra..looks damn new. I have my blindside/DV8 board from 97' or 98'? no scrathes, my 04 Parks/DNA you could put it back on the shelf and someone would walk buy and buy it as new. Yeah! I spend every wakeing moment thinking of riding and dreaming about the butter. Yeah! I care.....JetUpload

I'll admit it, I've used car wax on my board before. Keeps water spots off it keeps it from fading in the racks. Why not?
