They have them in New Zealand set up kind of like an amusement ride, next to bungee jumping and freefall simulator. Rode in one last Christmas while traveling in NZ. They look more fun in the video. It's a 16' boat with a 500HP blown small block pushing a jet. Zero to Sixty in about 150 feet.

They're called Jet Sprint Boats. If you ever have a chance, go watch them. They are very fun to watch. We have a track here in my home town. It's really great to watch the drivers blow a corner, hit the birm on the inside and flip the boat onto the outside island. Or better, flip the boat upside down in the water. When the water is low in the track (12 inches or so) the boats will go through the track and blast the water out. So for 20 feet behind the boat there is just muddy bottom, then the water comes rushing back in.

Some of them have insane amounts of HP. They accelerate so fast they can't keep the jet in the water and it pulls air as the boat jumps out of the water. Plus, they turn on a dime and give $.9 change.

We should have that in America. That was pretty sweet.

We do have that here in America. We also run them straight up the rapids all over the northwest against the clock.

A couple of these boats are now just making it to Havasu and Parker. Check out Eagle Performance Boats:

It's pretty cool when you can run over anything on the river and not have to worry about it.

There are tracks and a circuit that runs in the Pacific NW. There is a track just like this in Richland Washington...
Fun to watch!

The boats are about 12-14 ft long with up to 400-500hp.(sometimes more)There is a small rudder on the race specific pump units. If you ever get a chance to see a race,Do it!

Okay, here is the deal. I know, I just built a track in St. John, WA. The first race is July 28th. The Track is 2.5' deep and 14' wide. These boats will do 0 to 76mph in 70'. It is incredible to watch and even crazier to ride in one. Now some of the super boat class will push up to 800hp... I designed the track with a long back stretch for possible rails in the off time. Can you say jet ski and wake skate, I think that will be pretty crazy, just waiting for the grass roots to establish and hold the bank. Check out www.ussbaracing.com for the skinny. Here is a picture of the track from about a week ago, I will try to get a new one as grass is growing and we put more water in.Upload

If you want a similar thrill and have a slalom course on your lake, take turns with your buddies driving the slalom course in your boat with a stopwatch to see who can get the fastest time. Put money on it to make it more interesting. It's a blast!

OMG... I was dying watching that. Hilarious. I love watching those guys go jamming into the waves full speed. LOL!!!

It looks like they have a cage around the props. Still doesn't look very safe.

Spider,

Do you think there is enough interest to support your track? I know the Track down here in Richland is really struggling to keep the doors open. I watched the club president make a plea to the City Council asking them to reduce their lease from $1500/year to $1/year. It sounded like they were at the end of their rope in terms of keeping the track open.

btw, for all who is interested, there is a Race in Richland WA on June 16th. Tow your wakeboard boat down, hit the endless amounts of water on the Columbia and hit up the race on the way out of town.

All we need is a bunch of rednecks driving those around the lakes and river while we wakeboard. Add alcohol and that thing is a killing machine.

Leo, they are not allowed on lakes or rivers so you are safe! Craig, we'll find out, they don't market and have some other issues also.

They've run for years and are truly great. It's basically an autocross for boats with the driver and a navigator to call the turns. In Australia they run more on courses like that one and in New Zealand more on natural rivers. The best drivers are phenomenal.
A short Stage Rally in a car would be the closest comparison.

Leo, alcohol isn't the root of all evil, but for the sake of conversation, put an idiot in one of those and it's a "killing machine." On the other hand though, put an idiot in a wakeboard boat and it's a killing machine..

Given the choice, I'd much rather get run over by a sprint boat with zero running gear / skegs and everything else underneath it, then a wakeboard boat with skegs and all the running gear.

So I guess in a weird sorta way you could say.. It's safer then a wakeboat?

Spider, not sure where your boating at, but a person could stamp a HIN tag on one of those can either call it a home built, or have Eagle register one and be boating next weekend in AZ or CA if they wanted? Why would you say they're not allowed on the water?

RD
