i have finally narrowed it down to these three boards. can i have your opinion on each board and which one you would prefer.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       08-10-2009, 8:19 PM Reply
i haven't ridden the one, but between the shane and the recoil, my choice everyday of the week (and twice on sunday) is the shane: bigger pop and softer landings.

ok but i have my friend hear that sais its the oppsite and i dont no who to beleive but i like the shane

I'd say the Recoil, having ridden both a 'newer' Shane shape and the Recoil; but really, buy whichever one you can get for the cheapest and you will be stoked on the purchase since both boards are amazing.

I have ridden all 3 and rank them
1. recoil
2. shane
3. one

The recoil is a super fun board, it converted me to the flex movement for sure. Haven't ridden it on the wake yet but on cable it was fast and light and locked on edge even with no fins, booted me off the kickers, and landed super soft. Not to mention it slides great and presses real easy on rails. Fast and light. Most fun I have ever had on a wakeboard hands down.

The shane was one of my favorite boards until I rode a flex board. Heavier than the recoil for sure but still pretty light, and one of the faster 3 stage boards out there. Nice and loose but still locks on edge pretty well. Very wide board so naturally has a big pop off the wake and landed very soft from the big spine that runs down the center and the surface area.

I can't really comment on the one too much because I got it and couldn't get the hang of it, not sure why but I just couldn't get it to pop the way I wanted it to, so I sold it. Maybe scotty will chip in and tell you what he thinks, I sold it to him!

Hope this helps

anyone who says the recoil pops bigger than the shane is trying to convince himself that he made a good purchase.

that's right, i said it!

thanks but the thing is is that you have to but ronix or slingshot bindings with the recoil which limites me and my friend wants to sell me his recoil and ronix one bindings for 440 what do u think about that?

I just got a brand new 2009 recoil with 2008 D2s for 350 plus shipping, I don't wanna say he's ripping you off but there are much better deals out there.

so recoil or shane?
Old     (gunnertom4593)      Join Date: Sep 2008       08-10-2009, 8:58 PM Reply
Is there a way you can demo? They are completely different boards and it will come down to personal preference, not what anyone tells you. They are both top notch boards and you would be happy with either. I personally say the recoil though
Old     (sinkoumn)      Join Date: Jan 2007       08-10-2009, 8:59 PM Reply
You are getting ripped off. Buy the Recoil; if not from your bud, get it off of BBB.com when they have them for $399 w/binders this winter.

Brotha' please!?! Anyone justifying their own personal skill off of a board is trying to convince themselves they're actually decent on a wakeboard

Sounds like someone could not figure out how to load a flex board and land correctly in the flats. Having rode LF since I learned to ride. The Recoil is far superior to any board in the LF line up. My only complaint was it was a little slow. So I switched to the response. I take it as far as I can into the flats at least 4 times a set for 8 months now never broke one or had a landing that was anywhere near the pain I felt when landing in the flats with my old watson. Flex is the future. If you want to be riding an ancient piece of technology that will break get the Shane. I've never ridden the One so I have nothing to say other than everyone I have talked to liked it but said its slow.

I just saw you are in NC. If you come to Wilmington We have every size 09 recoil/response/ and a few reflex's you can demo if you would like. Shoot me a PM.

Can anybody compare the Shane to the Assault? I have both of these to demo this weekend but was curious about any opinions. Sorry for the hijack!

im leaning towards getting the shane bc im not that expirenced is that a good choice?

I strongly suggest demoing a flex board just to see how you like it, it's not for everyone but if you do like it its the funnest board you can get. If you don't like it the shane is one of my favorite traditional core boards and I think you will be very happy with it.
Old     (wake95kid)      Join Date: Jan 2009       08-11-2009, 7:50 AM Reply
i have already rode the recoil

Well did you like it? I had more fun with the 09 recoil than I ever did with my shane, and learned a bunch of new tricks in the process. But that's just me.

I was riding it with Slingshot D2s. After riding it for 6 hours or so at the cable and having the time of my life, I just ordered one for myself.

Also, what size were you riding? I'm only 5'10 145lbs and tried the 138 and didn't really like it, but when I rode the 142 I loved it
Old     (wake95kid)      Join Date: Jan 2009       08-11-2009, 8:07 AM Reply
im 5'3 100lbs and was riding a 138 and i was comfortable. more so than when i was on my friends 130.

Yeah that's probably as big as you wanna go lol...Don't take my word for it but I prefer the recoil.

So are most of your local shops carrying flex boards? None of my local spots carry Slingshot, Company, etc.

How long have you been riding? Sounds like you are new at it but if you have good technique then any one of the boards will get you air. If you are just learning then buy the most affordable set up and learn the basics first then you can demo others to see which one you like the most.

I have a shane and a recoil. I pretty much haven't picked up the shane all summmer.

I think the One catches a bad rap because it takes some getting used to. I would argue it has the most pop of all of these but its an acquired taste. You can't jump on this board and go nuts immediately, the rocker is abrupt and it takes some learning to get the timing down... but once you time it, that board boots with the best of them.

My $0.02

maybe not, but i don't want to waste my time having to learn to ride a board or learn how to land tail heavy.

maybe ancient, but it's still what's preferred by most.

also, i've had 4 shane boards (2006-2009), and none have broken. in fact, a bunch of my friends ride the shane and i've yet to see a broken one (not to say that it doesn't happen).

i would say def go with the recoil...i have been riding the 09 recoil all season and it is so nice...such good pop and super soft landings out in the flats...if you want really good bindings to go with it get the pb floyds...most comfortable bindings on the market! But last year i was riding between a ronix and a hyperlite and they dont even compare...i have never ridden a shane but really its all about if you want to have the flex or not...and honostly you wont really notice too much of a difference with your skill level...i also find that the way the slingshot boards are they really teach you the right technique to your edging...my friends uncle is the type of person that just goes out and then cuts in like crazy at the wake...we took him to a slingshot and he was sliding out...it taught him to make a progressive edge into the wake...just my two cents on which one to get...trust me you wont regret getting the recoil

Never rode a Shane or One, but i would still like to, though i know i would stand firm in my resolve never to buy a board without flex features again. It's just that i enjoy trying different boards (whenever the rare opportunity presents itself) Demoing boards has always been difficult for me, so i understand that if you are having trouble in that resolve.

i feel like i learn from each board i ride, but no board has taught me anywhere as much as when i rode the slingshot boards. i felt like it even helped show me what my riding style REALLY was. i'm still not an impressive rider (by wake-educated standards) but i am a much happier rider. (not that i was not happy before)

overall Fun and Enjoyment is why i choose slingshot. it started off being 'soft landings,' though that IS still a reason too. the rather featureless bottoms is a plus to me now too - it provides a sort of forgiving slipperiness.

this is all very subjective though. subjective to ME, or Joe Umali, or...etc. maybe you can share some details of what you liked and didn't like about the Recoil you rode and any other board you rode. what features do you hope for and expect? anything you can think of will help, and help even the most biased of us to give a more objective response. underneath our gear preference we all have a love and support for the sport and the industry as a whole... or so i hope

To start:
you asked which weighs less?
slingshot recoil weighs less and is one of the lightest boards on the market without spending a fortune... However, you could get last years Ronix One DARK CORE board(or this years, after a month or two) and that would indeed be lighter... same could be said about the LF Shane FLY CORE model, purchased cheaper at the end of the season.

It takes about 5 wake jumps to figure out how to ride a flex board. Also, a friend of mine who rode the shane and now rides the recoil. Would break a shane all the time. There is a reason all the companys are making flex boards and basically copying the recoil especially the new Henshaw. Anyways, I don't want to make this another flex vs non-flex thread. Like I said Austin. We have a 34, 38, and 42 recoil you can ride if you are ever in Wilmington.
Old     (nbigger)      Join Date: May 2008       08-12-2009, 5:31 AM Reply
I have not rode the Shane I have rode the one and I rode the recoil. I love the recoil I have had a 08 and broke a binding anchor because I was using zues bindings. They took care of me and sent me the 09 board and I bought some D2's. I have 3 friends who are just starting out and they all use my recoil and love it. If you can demo the boards go for it but the more I ride the recoil the more I fall in love with this board. Also the 09 shape is better than the 08. Thats my 2 cents though.
Old     (sidekicknicholas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       08-12-2009, 7:31 AM Reply
I have been on all three as well:

1. Recoil
2. Shane
3. One

Recoil is way way way lighter (unles you get a shane fly ... donno if they make that ans its $$$$$)

and "learning" to ride a flex board isn't going to waste your time, it will take 1/2 sets which honestly how long it takes me to adjust to any board/boat/bindings/etc etc that is new.

Austin, I agree with Luker, the One takes some getting used to. I see you live in NC. If you ride Belews Lake, hit me up and you can try out my One. It's a 138.
