I'm new here and hope to gain some solid knowledge about boat stereos. I have posted some questions on some of the car audio forums, but there is not much happening there.

I have a Cobalt 226 with a Samson tower. I have dual batteries with a combiner to keep eveything powered. I'm working on upgrading the stereo and have most of the components. The HU is a Pioneer DEH-P5000UB. In the main cabin, I have 4 Polk DB651 speakers and 2 more in the bow. On the tower I have 4 Polk DB651 speakers in Aerial Cans and a pair of Kicker KMT6 speakers pods. The Polks in the cabin can be wired any way I want; series, parallel or combined.

I need to add subs and an amp (or 3) to power it all. I have been lookign at Alpine PDF-F6 amps for all the speakers except the subs, Kicker amps and JL HD or XD amps.

I want to maximize the speakers I have now, have some headroom for the future and not spend money on something that provides no benefit (since boats are acoustically horrible anyway).

What would you recommend?

That seems like a lot of speakers on the tower. Got any pictures?

No pics yet. The kickers aren't here yet.

I have not talked to Samson as I don't want to buy another set of speakers.

For the 4 Polks and pair of Kicker KTM6's, see if you can get your hands on a Kicker zx850.4. it will deliver 175+ watts rms to each KTM6, each on their own chnl, then 107 watts rms to each Polk with 2 pair wired in parallel on the other two chnls.

Depending on what sub(s) you are going with, but you may look at something like the Kicker ZXM700.5. It will power all 6 in-boats nicely, and deliver 420 watts rms to a single 2 ohm sub or a pair of 4 ohm subs.

I have seen some ZX850.4 amps out there and was thinking about one or two of those as well. Thanks for your feedback and thoughts.

Got tired of researching and thinking about it, so I went ahead and ordered everything.
All Kicker amps.
1 850.4
2 650.4
2 550.2

Also ordered a Clarion EQS746 to tune the tower speakers.

I think it is going to be like a jigsaw puzzle fitting it all together. I'll only be running 4 of the amps in the boat. The other amp will go in the truck to power 2 10" subs.

Most everything is ordered or here. A $750 upgrade sure ballooned, but it should be fun.

Shoulda got a mono amp for the subs in the truck (i.e. 750.1).

I may very well use a monoblock in the truck when the time comes. I want to get the boat done first and then go from there.
