Need A New Favicon - Can You Help?

Our old Favicon.ico file ( - the little icon that gets saved with the WakeWorld.com URL in your bookmarks and usually shows up on the tab at the top of your browser) is just that...old. We need a new one for the new site that we're launching on Monday, but my web guys are too busy with other stuff, so I'm looking for your help.

The person that comes up with the icon that we end up using will get a free WakeWorld tee-shirt. It's a small prize, but the Favicon is really small too!

All I have to get you started are our logos, so show me what you got by posting yours here.

why not something simple and to the point like this?

i agree ben, working on stuff that small is brutal. pixels to the max!

so i spentthe last hour screwing around with stuff and actually found something that is perfect, it uses the new logos lettering but looks completely updated i went through and had to tinker with it alot to look good when the image was entered into a favicon.ico generator and i thought the finished product looked pretty cool. Here is the image i tinkered with, it looks really good when shrunk down to the favicon size.

i am working on a little more editing to try and get the lines a little more clean since i had to add the black background some of the dark blue is screwed up here is the finished image i am happy with

how about the new wake world wire globe with the two "W"s
or just "Wake" with the world pictured



i pieced the missing parts of the wire globe with paint, so it aint great, but i guess after it is shrunk down it wont be noticed as much ;) but then again i am sure that the original wire frame file can be manipulated for a similar look with better quality if liked

Remember, that it has to look good at 16x16 pixels. That's definitely the hard part. Much harder than you would think. Post it up at that size when you're done so we can see how it will look.

Kyle, why black instead of blue for the background? Might just be easier to go with the blue. That's the same idea I was thinking of, but I couldn't execute!

i thought the black looked better then the dark blue i kinda based it off the shredtown favicon where they have the black, ad it just kinda pops out to me i also am using a really bad editing program so i couldnt find the right color blue, so i tried it with black. Ill see what i can do right now though

But what does it look like at 16x16? I like it at that size. I think you're in the lead!

dave save the picture and then go to http://www.favicon.co.uk/
and upload the image and it will give you the image in a 16x16 view it looks pretty nice shrunken down i am not sure how to save the 16x16 image so that is what i did to view it

I vote for Eubanks... I don't think you need the W's. Just the wire globe is perfect.

I like that Tailgate. Maybe darker and without the shadow so it stands out more at 16x16?

I like the "WW" idea but think it is hard to see what it is when it is sized down. I think a lot of the issue is the font color being partly white and partly gray. It needs to be all white IMO.

So all in all I vote for the globe!

The transparent bit kinda becomes pointless when its sized down even though it looks great normal size. My vote's for tailgate

this is what I mean by transparent and non transparent. it makes a subtle difference.

as .png with transparency, and a little darker

i like both cocheese and tailgates, the only thing i feel in seeing those though, is it feels like it would be the fav icon for like an encyclopedia or something ya know, but that is just me

I agree the globe alone reminds me of something related to science or something. I think if we combined the globe with one of Kyle's more rounded "W" then it would look pretty good.
